Had another go at fitting the bumper today after straightening out that chassis rail. Got 2 bolts to hold it in place on the over riders but nothing else lines up. I'm wondering if this is because of my car or a design flaw. I think I'll put the old one back on and do some measuring too, see if there are any differences. Beginning to be a right pain this...

Have you spoken to Paddocks? They may well have seen this issue before?

Have you laid the 2 bumpers next to each other to see if the brackets are in the same place, and dimensions are the same ? Dusty

I would also say that as we know from bikes that sadly not all pattern parts are 'as OEM' and you might need to adjust the holes, its not like Triumph in the 60s was 'exact' tho so who knows where blame lies... especially after all these years as well... hmm...

When it stops raining I'm going to measure both bumpers and if the Paddocks one is skewy then they'll be getting a call. If I have to send it back it might get interesting as I didn't order it (as you all know) and the rear bumpers it came with are AWOL!

I figured it out today. The new over riders are a little bit smaller than the originals. I need to widen them a tad. So for now the old bumper is back on!

Just been out for a night drive. The reason I 'persuaded' myself is that Tesco sells cheap petrol and I only had a quarter tank. Roof off and what a great time! It's quite spooky going down an unlit road with just the glow of the c**kpit lights and my feeble headlights trying to guide the way. Only issues were modern cars and the LED or Halogen lights they have, blinds me coming up from behind and blinds me coming the other way. I need to get some of those anti dazzle night glasses!
Alex
ps 99 octane E5 were I am is £1.77 a litre. Tesco, £1.55.

Both prices sound cheap compared to Holland.

Not with my back as it is Jon. When she goes in for a respray I'll be bringing the new bumper with me and asking them to that back on instead of the old one. Why not? They'll have to take everything off the car anyway!
Alex
ps more escapades no doubt on the way soon!

Yeah... its stuff like that thats killed so many brit sports cars... back in the day I drove one as my daily and the slap/flap of my soaking suit trouser bottoms was pretty normal for me in winter... unless it was freezing, in which case I might arrive at work dry as the footwells were solid. 'happy days' er... :/

Not had much to report for ages. When it's dry she goes out, that's about it. But one thing that is bugging the hell out of me is the paintwork. UVs have cracked a lot of it, namely the bonnet and the drivers door and a respray is £4k. There has to be a way of fixing it. Then I thought of something. I have a tube of this, it's about 15 years old (note the price sticker) and I use it with great effect to polish plastic headlight covers on cars. Now this isn't T Cut and it takes a while to really polish stuff up...so after a good 2 hours graft... I am impressed. Ordered another tube, the same size, a tenner. I shall continue. Alex

Give it a good coat of a protection coat, something like wax or modern equiv, to keep the shine a bit longer after this stuff, it'll help.

Get a price for it to be wrapped, not only much cheaper than paint, but also is a plastic protective coating, and it's quite amazing stuff in any colour or pattern, some wonderful looking designs available.

Yep, wax is on the agenda. A wrap has been discussed before Tony and is surprisingly expensive! However even if it was cheap the amount of cracks in the paint would show through. However, if I can get rid of them all then a respray/wrap won't be needed.

Just watched the Shed and Buried Classic Cars ep with the 1500. Looked an less than idea set of cuts for the repair to the overider/bumper+bonnet mount but most Spits would have had worse to get through MOTs I guess and that bonnet was a horrid fit, but otherwise it was good looking car once resprayed. 69k miles was original... er, ok... lol
