You should just pretend to plug it in see what reaction you get 👍

That's the best thing to do
Make up a fake lead/socket and plug it in
Tell folk it's one of those trendy classic cars with a hybrid conversion 🤣

I have actually fooled a couple of people who pointed out where I was parked. I pointed to the filler cap and said that's the electric socket.
They believed me too...

To be honest when you have a car of this age you should be able to park it everywhere!

Clutch master cylinder attempt #3. Booked her in today as Jason the boss was back from his holiday. As soon as I got out the door it chucked it down...but off I went. Turns out he didn't realise the copper pipes etc are Imperial sizes. Sigh. Drove home and ordered the right stuff. When that turns up we'll have another crack at this. Plus...yesterday I thought I'd give her a good run out and the battery conked out. I managed to get her started by connecting my battery charger so I've had to order a new flippin' battery. Fecks sake lol. Alex

New battery arrived the next day and £48 for a Tanya one. Good price I say. And clutch repair attempt #4 was a success! Didn't need the new copper pipes after all but good to have them in stock. The old one is manky but it's the original Girling one so I might get a repair kit and have it as a reserve... Alex

Haha! There's still some way to go with Lora. A nice few days with some flippin' sun would be good. I need to fit the new windscreen rail and then adjust the hood a bit. Handbrake needs sorting and I'll do that at the same time I either recover the MK4 seats or fit some Clubman ones. I really want that twin ally exhaust too! And in my fantasy world a set of Dellorto 40's. Oh yes, get the boot sorted with some non pink carpet!

ps. Next door to the garage there is a body shop that does classics mainly. He said to paint the top of the bonnet, fix a bad repair too, and likewise on the boot. £900. Oh dear.

No chance the bodyshop will let you do the donkey(chomp) labour work to help with the bill? Ie the prep?

My seats are tatty to say the least. MK3 seats are unobtanium, but mine are MK4 ones. New covers would do. Rimmers sell those for £400 and Paddocks the same ones for £350. NEW seats that will fit Lora are about £300 a pair. Unreal. Then eBay pops up with the exact same seat covers that the other lot sell. £90. Ordered some. It does pay to look around!

wow that is cheap compared to the main suppliers.
Ahh Paddocks... used to be round the corner from my folks place, great bunch of lads back in the 90s lol
Defo keen to see this retrim in action. Are you going to tidy/resto the frames along the way and fit new foam?

Alex That is so typical of this old Brit car parts wether it's a triumph or a Landrover. The difficult part is sifting through it all for the tat to get the quality stuff. This is where a forum is good as you can learn from other peoples experiances.

Amazingly someone on the Triumph forum was looking for some covers and was about to buy the Rimmers ones, until I sent him an eBay link. As for the frames and foams Jon, I shall have to see what they are like first. The foamy bits can be very expensive...no idea why, it's just foam...
Thing is next week is meant to be nice and sunny. Finally after the wettest March on record. So I will finish off the hood, get some boot carpets and do the seats. And maybe, just maybe, that twin exhaust!

The seat covers arrived! So let's have a fit. The seat bases in the Spit clip out... These aren't too bad really, a little surface rust but nothing really. The seat frames are okay for now. The covers just slide over the old ones (I could have taken out the old ones but thought I'd see how this goes first) and they are a good snug fit. Once taut I clipped them into place with some little fasteners I had lying about. The seat backs can be fitted in situ as the seats themselves tilt forward allow access to everything. Not bad for £90. I'll do the passenger side tomorrow. Eventually she will get new seats but not just yet! Next up is swap out the windscreen cover. This one is really manky and warped so the hood doesn't close flush. New one on and way, way better! Alex

Solid work there!
Amazing the covers fit over the old ones, but i guess it makes the job very DIY simple.
With those and the header rail it looks epic, really lifts the look and I would think the enjoyment of the car.

It certainly does Jon! Today (just before the rain kicked in) I managed to fit the mounting plate that holds the back of the hood down. It's all a bit more taut and snug fitting now.

Latest sit rep and for once it's all good news. We've had some odd weather here, mostly rain and sometimes cold. But for the last two weeks I've been having a trial run with Lora. And that entails leaving her outside with no cover on. I really had to grit my teeth with this idea as it has lashed down but I wanted to see how well the roof held up. She's 100% watertight. I usually had a wet bum after driving her but nothing now. Footwells all dry. So what's left to do?
Paint. The bonnet and boot need doing. £900 seems insane but then I thought what about a wrap? Some gloss stuff that matches the colour would be ideal and maybe 20% of the price of paint.
Zorst. Twins please and asap.
Interior. I need a new dash cover and dash. Not cheap and a bugger to fit a new dash but it needs to be done. The rear wheel arches are going to be flatted back and I'll paint them.
Boot. Carpet and side panels. Spare wheel cover too.
That's almost it. I really could use a new windscreen but that can wait for another time.
So...she drives fine, is dry as a bone and I am so glad I have another Spit in my life!

Thats great news Alex. Amusingly... it was just normal life for me lol but I spent my early work years going to the office in various leaky british softops. The give away they leaked was that the back of my suit trousers had a triangle that was soaking wet from me operating the pedals while the backs of the trouser cuffs were gently dunked in the footwell puddles ...and during the winter sometimes in the morning id get away with it if it was <0 deg as the ice would mean no wet slaps on my ankles for 2 hours walking the office floors in the morning lol The other thing removing water from inside does is mean less steaming up, a real bonus! Is a wrap only 20%? Ive investigated it before and it wasnt much cheaper than paint here... plus it needs a very flat surface or it looks awful. Also be aware that a cheap wrap can mean cuts in the paint under the wrap as not all wrappers are equal when it comes to fitting. Can you shop the paint job around and find a cheaper quote? oh yes twin pipes! with the extractor manifold... if you want all the noise Pleased youre enjoying the car in the summer sun!

Hmm. Maybe a wrap isn't such a great idea. Hey ho. But today was a lovely one and Lora went out for a serious blat around the local lanes. It's intoxicating, the noise as the revs rise, the roof down, your bum scraping the deck. What a thing. Ended up at my usual watering hole and a woman approached the car and was having a good old look around then asked if it was mine and could she take a photo...I ended up taking one of her next to the car...she was grinning like a loon!
