I was at my mates garage the other day and he’s always got various bikes stripped down anyway we were talking clutches and he said he has an extra steel in all his bikes (7 motocross bikes) to stop them slipping ive never heard or read on here of this anyone else heard of it. i know people have trouble if the steels are too thick so maybe its not possible on our bike

I run an extra steel in the middle of all my dirt bike clutches. An old trails trick as they run hot. Lot of clutch use and low speed. Never tried it on a street bike though!

I run a extra metal plate in all 3 of my LCs it beefs it up a little and it does not make the clutch any heavier

down side of running an extra steel is it can overheat the clutch and also cause drag, you also run the risk of the stack height being too much and the plates "falling" out of the basket and jamming the clutch up - clearly the extra pkate works, adds more stack height, so more pressure, tightens the springs more, but the correct way is to have a proper 8 plate clutch, something I am working on at the moment

Used to be common to fit a Yama Steel (genuine as they were thin-ish). Against the inner centre Ali clutch face. A better wear surface, slightly higher pack pressure for not so much additional stack height as to cause issues.

I have thicker steels so a normal set works out at about the same as an extra steel
