Hi guys,
Iโm hoping someone can give me some more fork related advice.
Is it possible to fit lc2 stanchions into f2 fork lowers.
Im wanting to fit renthal bars on a f2 so Iโm gonna fit a lc2 top yoke and Lc2 Stanchions.
Will I then need the bushes, seals, sliders etc for an lc2 stanchion and f2 internals for the rest of the fork lowers??
Again, all advice greatfully received ๐
Cheers
Jim

I've always thought it was possible
The seals are the same between the 2 which is a good sign
I'm sure others have done it before

Yes, the LC2 stanchions fit straight into the F2 lowers. I did this to my bike back in the 90's. As I've said before you also get the benefit of the fork brace and the better 2 pot F2 calipers! Here's a pic.๐

For what it's worth, I have F2 uppers and FZR 250 2KR lowers. I think all the 35mm Yam stuff of that era swaps around without any issues.
So I have a single 320mm disk and 100mm between centre caliper mounts, so a blue spot, or in my case a gold spot caliper bolts on directly.

Wow, thatโs brilliant guys. Thanks very much for the info.
So will i then need to use the lc2 top and bottom bushes and sliders etc on the stanchions and then use the f2 damper rod, end stay, seals, etc. on the lowers?
Cheers

As I said I did this a long time ago but the stanchion bottom bush/ slider is the same on the LC2 and F2. Use the F2 lower leg top bush, oil seal and dust cover, obviously these should be replaced anyway, LC2 damper rod and rebound spring.
I used all my LC2 parts as I knew they were in great condition as opposed to an unknown second hand pair of F2 fork components.
Hope this helps!๐

Thanks freddie19, thatโs been a massive help. I think I know what Iโm doing now!!๐
I could still use my f2 damper rod and rebound spring then rather than source the lc2 parts?
Cheers

The later "variable damper" forks are an improvement if Yamaha are to be believed
You will just have to cut the spring spacer down to fit the shorter stanchion
Measure how much sticks out the f2 one first then you will know how much to cut
You will also have to reduce the oil amount to give the correct air gap
Fork top wise you may want to take a gamble and try some Chinese 35mm preload adjusters
Or try and find some F1/N1 tops which have an air valve in them and screw in like lc2
Air valve is recessed. I never run air in them anyway. You could just make the spacers 5 or 10mm longer than they should be to give a little more preload and run no air

Brilliant, cheers for the info Steve ๐
Looks like Iโve got a plan now!!!
Iโd better pull my finger out instead of looking at photos of all the amazing looking bikes on here!!! ๐

So I'm guessing you've only got the LC2 bare stanchions and not the complete forks so yes just use your F2 damper rod and rebound spring and shorten the spring spacer as Steve says!๐

Yeah, sorry, I should have made that clear. Iโve got the complete f2 fork and want to fit the bare lc2 stanchion.
So I need to shorten the f2 spring spacer under the fork cap due to the lc2 stanchion being shorter ๐
Cheers everyone

Just to understand this better your mod was with a standard YPVS rim?

Just to understand this better your mod was with a standard YPVS rim? Nope, 17" FZR rim, fork lowers yokes etc. The FZR tubes were rusty, so I swapped the tubes from the F2 ones. Bolted into the F2 headstock perfectly, no spacers needed. I suspect the RZ250R used the same or very similar stuff. Old picture here www.dropbox.com/s/8a5fzjdgipkyou3/DSCF1489.JPG Also has the FZR rear end in, so no nasty suspension bushes through the swinger and a 17" wheel. Needed a small amount of work to fit, long time ago now, but new dog bones and maybe a bit of narrowing, but relatively easy.

Tobyjugs sounds to me like he has the matching 2KR wheel and disk, which is similar (if not identical to a 2MA). Edit - beat me to it by a minute or so. Jon

Doesn't look like a 2KR one.

I do like the look of that front wheel. It's nice kit, and much lighter than the F2 one, never mind the 31K boat anchor. Also I picked up the complete FZR rolling chassis for ยฃ50, so was a no brainer compared to, say RGV stuff. Still too narrow for radial tyres though.
