Hi All, hope everyone is well.
I have a new clutch to fit to the F2, I have an Athena gasket and considering putting a few micron smear of gasket sealant onto the casing to hold it in place and make a better seal. I just wondered what gasket sealer you guys swear by and if I should be using it at all?
I have an EBC clutch set (currently soaking) and some EBC heavy duty springs, I have no clutch slip from the original clutch this is just maintenance and wondered if I need to put in the EBC springs, I was concerned it could make the clutch heavy? If the originals are still in service length should I reuse?
This is stuff I have done many times before but want your opinions.
Cheers all
Chris

If you original clutch wasn't slipping and the spring length is still in spec the you can reuse them
As an aside the gen Yam springs are only £3 odd each so not expensive
The EBC ones will give you a workout

Oh and I just fit the gaskets dry Steve If anything other than dry, a thin smear of grease is good to use, unless you have seriously warped / damaged surfaces you don't need anything.

Hi Fellas, taken on board, thanks. As for fitting 3 and 3 would that not put uneven pressure on the system or is that normal practice?

I have just ordered a set of springs from Fowlers, £27 all in, seems the right thing to do.

Back in the 80`s used to use 3 stock and 3 TZ clutch springs. I currently have 6 of the EBC heavy duty in , replacing knackered original, definitely does give a workout ! A set of 6 new oem ones from Fowlers on the way, swap 3 out and I`ll have a spare set for the stalled hybrid rebuild.

I normally put a RTV type sealer on the engine side case side so that the gaskets stick to it, the only reason i do this is to stick it to the casing for when i open it up for checks or maintenance. The one thing i would advise is a tiny dob of sealant on both sides of the engine block where the two halfs butt up.
If the EBC kit comes with steel frictions that are completely round i would use the standard spring set up as you have more friction area with them.
Spring wise i would go for lightest possible unless you like gorilla grip work outs.

I always use 3/3. 3 race and 3 oem springs and take out the rubber dampers between the plates. Works great.

Are 4LO and 31k/F2 springs the same?

Are 4LO and 31k/F2 springs the same? Not sure about that one but i have noticed that YPVS springs are colour coded with yellow paint. Never seen that on a 4LO engine.

Are 4LO and 31k/F2 springs the same? Different part numbers so doubt it Steve

I use the 6 uprated EBC springs with a modified actuator arm, using an OEM cable and this is still easy to pull.
I fit my own clutch cover gaskets and fit them with a thin smear of grease to ease disassembly.

I'm curious to know what modification you made to the actuator arm you mentioned, or is it something that's available somewhere?

I get the arm part cut and have a piece welded in to make it 10mm longer. :-)

Maybe there's a gap in the market for such a mod, all be it a small market.

I have several local fabricators who can do this work for me. If you can get a spare arm and send it to me, I can drop it into one of them to sort it for you. I am in West Midlands.
