I am just in the throws of finishing off some replacement bearings for the idler gear (kick starter to clutch gear) and also the big clutch bearing that wears out (the pressed in sintered bronze one).
I'll be doing these for all customer engines that come in for repair/overhaul going forward as nearly everyone these days are knackered, but I am also considering offering this service to those who would like it done
I am not fully firm on prices yet, but I think the idler gear bearing replacement will be approx £10 to £12 and the clutch bearing approx £30 to £35, which will have a bearing made to fit your inner bearing (the large steel scrolled bearing that runs between the bearing and the main shaft) so that any wear is taken out
So just wondering what sort of interest there would be, I am not going to sell the bearings seperately (so don't ask), it will be an offered service, so sending your gears/clutch etc to me as I'll be making the bearings in batches
I'll also look to offer a walking in service for those close to me, but that's a little way off as I need to get a few things made to make the job quick to do and less manual
I am still doing the needle roller bearing conversions for the idler gear for those who want that instead
Anyway, any thoughts/feedback would be good

Great idea. Wish someone local to me could do this.

It might be worth doing the bushes in two of the output gears too as they seem to wear a lot.

Great idea to offer the bearing upgrades whilst engines are in for work, anything to future proof these motors.

I would definitely do it on future engine builds. Makes perfect sense to future proof those parts. Dusty

Sounds like another great service you are offering Dave. I suspect the pop in service will include tea and biscuits.
