Hi
I've seen some parts for one of my restorations but they are in Italy. Parts are new and cost £373 including shipping. How do you go about calculating any extra charges, import duties/VAT etc. When I add the parts to my ebay basket this appears on the bottom of the order "Order total excludes VAT and duties that may be payable on delivery of the item." Just need to know that it's within my budget.
Cheers
Paul

Always allow for 20%
EBay may add it when you complete the sale or the courier may charge it before the delivery will be released
It also may slip through

VAT is 20%, plus you normally have an admin fee (circa~ £12+vat) and some couriers charge a handling fee as well, which can be as much as £30, but as Steve says, you might be lucky and it slip through and not attract any charges

If they/you use a courier that is outside of the national postal network then the rule of thumb is that they will always levy imports, if the national carrier is involved in the delivery then often it wont happen as they dont have the resources (staff) to cover the work and parcels often slip through. Fact of life is that the likes of FedEx make enough with those fees to employ a large department of vat collectors, RoyalMail/PFWW less so.

And yet Fedex has no such fees when Shipping my online purchased goods from US to Canada. It's both notably Cheaper and faster than the post office can manage. Ebay however, adds on Usurious costs for US to Canada deliveries . Yet another nail in it's coffin, at least 'here'

Ebay (and others now) add fees at purchase which is different to the import tax collection on parcels by carriers which is on entry to the country and depends on their appetite for money vs their staffing.

Totally agree Jon
Been finding that if it is under £200 it usually sneaks in, if over they will add charges
If they can only process so many for lack of manpower they are going to be selective and only pick the higher value ones
And yes eBay add the charges now.
Bought something from Aus last night and eBay added 20% at the checkout

The handling fee is always the bitter pill to take

Suppose the good thing with eBay and if UPS are delivering is that there is no handling fee

Dont forget that the vat is not just for the goods they add the post cost on as well so you pay %20 on the post and item cost together .

Yes and as a seller you also pay fees on the VAT they have added for the foreign buyer. Im starting to remove overseas sales from listings now. Gutting to do it, but its an ebay rort, they make money from fees on taxes. Rude.

I bought a set of Jim Lomas pipes for my RD500 from Wolfgang at Young Timers Shop based in Austria. No import duties, no VAT, dead easy and quite a bit cheaper than I could buy them in the UK. Ooops sorry pre - Brexit.

Ooops sorry pre - Brexit. 😂😂 yes Brexit has made it not worthwhile buying from Europe i used to get odd bits and pieces from Germany etc but Brexit has killed all of that off 😟 frustrating and a shame

I've given it some thought and going to leave it a while. Can't really see the point of spending £500+ on an exhaust that will just sit on the bike till next May or whenever the sun decides to come out again on aregular basis. Replies have been helpful as I now have an idea if final costs. Cheers
