Hi Guys,
I’m hoping someone can give me some advice on my transmission.
Ive got an RD350R and I need to replace the input shaft 2nd gear pinion. As it’s no longer available I was going to order the identical part from the banshee gearbox. Please can anyone advise if the gearing is the same or will I have to order the corresponding output shaft pinion as well. Is it good practise to replace the output shaft pinion anyway even if they are identical?
Cheers

You should be able to use the banshee gear as long as you also buy the other banshee 2nd gear as they are a different ratio
I'll check what the ratio is and get back

Just looked at the banshee ratios and banshee is 1.812 and YPVS is 1.777 so gap from first to second is smaller and second to third is bigger

The banshee input shaft has a different part number as fist gear is part of it and a taller gear
Output shaft is same 29l part number

You can check all the ratios from both engine types. I listed them in my Bakker 443 thread. Must be around page 4.

Thanks for the great info and advice bare and Steve 👍
I’ve already had to replace both first gear pinions and didn’t realise how manky 2nd gear was too. I’ll replace both gears to be sure. The rest of the gears look ok 😅

If you go to Nova gears web site I think they list all the ratios. You should be able to see the differences between a 4LO and YPVS
I had a clutch failiure which meant opening the box up. My gearbox is a mix of YPVS and banshee. Whilst the box was open I examined the gears and selector arms and everything was good. Do you can use them. I am a big fan of the long first banshee gear.

Thanks Tobyjugs, it’s reassuring to hear from someone that’s actually done it!!!
It’s my first ever rebuild 😅 so I’m learning as I go. So as long as I replace the gears as a pair on the input and output shaft I should be ok?
I was wondering if the gaskets are identical as well. I may as well order them from across the pond if they’re cheaper. I’ve checked the part numbers to see if they differ. The crankcase cover gasket part numbers are 3GG1546102 and 3GG-15461-02-00 so I presume they’re identical. The cylinder head numbers are 31K-11181-00 and 2GU-11181-00-00 so I’m not sure if I can use that.
Cheers

Head gasket is different I'm afraid
I've not found a cheap source either ☹
