What are the options in terms of fitting crash protection to a YPVS model. I know the local scaffold company can build me something retro but is there an option along the lines of case protectors and frame mounted nylon bungs?

The best option for crash protection I can think of is sticky tires, good suspension and good brakes. I know it's not the answer you were looking for, but prevention is better than cure.

Bobbin might save some damage ...but yes, if you drop an LC on the road, no nice glide runoff’s, then it could end in a big mess....more than bobbins or crash bars are going to eliminate..... Maybe worth remembering that they are not heavy bikes...so do like to launch themselves without much encouragement! Best to just stay on it or build a track bike !

I've never actually come across crash protection for the LC2's and the later models only the LC and before and it bolted to the frame itself from memory
Most bobbins are placed on the frame and use a longer bolt somewhere there is an engine mount to the frame or suitable mounting point on the engine itself, all of the modern bikes we own have crash protection fitted, all with the nylon slider type
As most modern frames use the engine as a stress member, these fixation points are generally hard to come across, the LC's and YPVS models don't have the engine as a stress member to the same degree so you lose those fixation points
The only thing I could think of is somehow clamping a nylon? cylinder of suitable to some part of the frame, I doubt anyone would want to drill through their frame though
The F1 & F2 would be more problematic as the fairing covers the majority of the frame where such a bobbin would go, and I doubt many would want to be drilling holes in the plastics either, anywhere else would fowl the gear or brake levers I'd presume
Tricky problem, it'll be interesting to see any real world solutions given that tanks and plastics are now difficult to find

In the late 80’s there used to be some thick alloy case protecters that boited to the front engine mounting bolts, think they were 10 mm thick alloy that went over the flywheel one side and over the oil pump on the other immsc?

Upgrade YOUR ride skills. Don't be sticking Bumpers on the pore bike.

You are the crash protection. As you go over, engineer it so you end up protecting the (now very) expensive RD from the abrasive road. You will heal quicker than your wallet... etc. Jokes aside, as has been said you could make something up with some delrin or other thick rod, but its not like our bikes have lots of places to fit this

I'd like to see an example of those Albeit they are probably only for the naked versions, worth looking at all the same

Not a YPVS but these ideas are what's been done in the earlystocks club. I fab'd up some covers to mount off the front engine mounts on mine and also fitted the widest bars i could find!
Others have machined up nylon bars as has been said. They're more pleasing on the eye but do they do the job any better?
Don't know how effective they are as i've never tested them thankfully!
