Afternoon all,
just in the process of getting my paper work for my 4l0 ready to send to the dvla. Does anyone have the name of a company who will insure on the vin plate? The couple I have tried want the reg number. Also any thoughts on the v55, l don’t have a country of origin as the bike came from DK Motorcycles.
Cheers

I don’t think you need insurance now to register the bike

Insurance isn't necessary to register a bike any longer, however companies like Footman James will insure on the Frame number but you will need to call them or go on the website and ask for a call back. I have my restoration projects insured in this way until they are registered and its only a phone call to let them know the Reg number once you receive the DVLA confirmation.

Worth getting insured on VIN
My bike was 80% complete in garage for a long while and if that had been nicked

Footman James will insure on a vin and won't chase you for a reg number after a few weeks
As for country of origin the details will be known by HMRC as to get a NOVA you need to say where it came from
Also if you speak to Yamaha Cust Services about a dating letter they will usually say where it was built for

They just insure it as "laid up" for fire and theft and accidental damage. Adds virtually nothing to a multi bike policy and worth it for peace of mind.

Hi everyone, thanks for that. Just a thought if the bike is not insured when registered does it have to be sorned straight away? If it's not insured then you can't tax it, so would presumably would have to SORN it? You only have to SORN once now and it's all online. so no big deal.

When you apply for a new V5, you have to tax it at the same time (£55) but like peeps have said DVLA aren't interested in insurance now, just want some more cash off you !

DVLA haven't needed insurance to process a V55 for quite a few years now.
