LC Hybrid with YPVS Engine on Historic Vehicle Tax

Anyone got one registered as Historic Vehicle for Road Tax purposes?

Alternative cubic capacities of the same basic engine and alternative original equipment engines are not considered to be a substantial change.

If the number of cylinders in an engine is different from the original it’s likely to be, but not necessarily, the case that the current engine is not alternative original equipment.

But there is the clause about modification done within the first 10 years

Surely that along with it still being a Yam 347 twin should be fine

I'd also think that a cop or VOSA employee would struggle to clarify anything is out of place

But then these other wonderfully vague  ( get out ) clauses to the 10 year rule also included in the same paragraph pretty much lets you change what you want as long as it's in the name of improving the vehicle safety or you can't reasonably (read cheaply) get original replacement parts.

It does not count as a ‘substantial change’ if:

Changes are made to preserve a vehicle because the original type parts are no longer reasonably available

Axles and running gear have been changed to improve efficiency, safety or environmental performance"

My interpretation of that is that you can do pretty much what you like ( just don't shout about it )

Mine is on historic vehicle tax now

I don't think there's an issue having a hybrid on historic, and i know one very well known one, with zip paintwork has been reclassified already, but obviously in the future, should there be any incident /insurance claim, that's the acid test.

Mine's on historic but there's nothing on the V5 to suggest that it has a YPVS engine fitted, only engine number and CC.

Just recently put my newly acquired lc/ypvs on historic. No questions were asked, and I didn't feel the need to tell them anything.

After all a YPVS is just a more up to date version of the LC. They are both RD engines with the same engine fitment dimensions.
