I have modified my RD350LC tank to take an F2 fuel flap, now I need the tank filled and sprayed, its not standard colour, actually its Vauxhall flame red, I used to work there so it was plentuful and free! Looking for places around Peterborough to get the work done, I have had one price of £250+vat and that seems way steep for just a solid colour on a tank, anyone know of any GOOD paintshops that are reasonably priced?

Perhaps a Body shop would be a good starting point . Often body shops (not all of course) work to a Very High standard. Higher than a Lot of Moto work i've seen .. and might not be near as greedy. After all it isn't a Maserati yer wanting resprayed :-)

OMG... to be honest ive worked in 4 body shops over the last 10 years and it sounds very reasonable for a top job which is exactly what dream machine do,some serious hours go into a decent paint job mate.

infact if id known dream machine only charge £300 for a naked bike i would of let them do my 125lc as for me to do a similar quality job took me 3 days and about £60 for paint and materials (already had basic stuff like 2k clear etc) plus decal kit at about £50.in heinseight i would of been better off just going to work and sending them my parts as i lost out on 3 days wages plus any problems it would be there problem and not mine.

I'd get prices from local coachworks and body shops. I use a local guy, the last tank I gave him was dent free so just needed painting, he done the base coat, took £80. Left in garage curing for 4 weeks then fitted the decals, left another week for these to settle then gave it back to painter to clear coat for free.
Ask around first or take a look at something they are doing first to make sure it will look good.

i expect your going to have to pay slightly more than a average tank to have your tank painted as where you have fitted the f2 fuel cap alough it looks like a excellent job any good body shop will spend a little bit of time stripping the tank to bare metal,a little time to perfect the area where the f2 cap will be with a plannishing hammer and a light skim of filler to ensure it is a a1 job to avoid any light distortions or ripples, you could maybe save a few £££ if you paint spripper the tank before it goes to the body shop just dont let it rust or get oil/silicone on it!

I Got bored over Xmas and a small bucket of Plastic Padding Ultima later the tank is looking a bit more presentable, may just go for the rattle can finish I have lived with for the last few years. Robin

I Got bored over Xmas and a small bucket of Plastic Padding Ultima later the tank is looking a bit more presentable, may just go for the rattle can finish I have lived with for the last few years. if your going for rattle cans id get your local paint shop to mix you up some 2k in a aerosol the day its all ready to paint as the cans only have a short shelf life of say 8 hours (on a cold day) the results will be far better that that of a cellulose filled rattle can, with a bit of patience you could achieve a body shop quality job Robin
