Had a b1? Many moons ago think this is a c3? The rear end looks slightly odd? Is it a 16 in rear wheel? Or the angle of the picture? Those filters aren’t going to help it, you do realise your mito would probably blow it into the weeds?

It needs some TLC and paint, the filters are wrong as you say, its not a bad price but factor in the cost to do the paintwork, annoys me that someone selling a bike can't be arsed to set the rear light and number plate straight.

Spend a bit more (not much) and get a nice Honda Hornet, an 07 onwards one.

I reckon that's a bitza. Its possibly a C something, C1 or C2 if '77. Should have earlier clocks, and it isn't a C1 engine. I think the C models should have discs front & rear. May well be an "F" model rear wheel, or pair of wheels on a "B" bike.
I'd avoid one without the correct airbox also.
I have a C1, and really like it. Not quick but perfectly adequate. My twin discs are also poor, but the rear one helps a lot.

Nice enough looking bike but I would also be sceptical about the amount of unfinished bits n bobs described. Bike is a mix and match of various 650s from different years plus the horrendous cheap aftermarket recessed light at the back. R reg is 1976/77 so being en early model probably a B1. For year should have wire wheels and single disc up front (caliper mounted in front of fork leg) Early tank and badges but later side panel badges. Missing original airbox and rear muddy which are rarer than a rare thing to find these days. Later type of clocks fitted which don't look Zed. Early 650s had same clocks as 900s and 1000s (round cups on bottoms). On a plus it seems a reasonably honest advert as seller seems up front about most of the things which are not quite there so if you fancy another project !!!! John

Been a few z650s on lately, see the seller says he has more of them. Aren’t they pre cv carbs, didn’t think they were so sensitive to pod filters.

My brother had a B1 in that colour, and had wire spoke wheels as standard. I always thought it was the C1 that had the alloys, but I'm far from certain. I agree with the lads - that's a bitsa Dusty

Anorak mode on
The B1 and C1 engines have a field coil controlled 3 phase alternator, and 3 extra screws visible in the centre bit of the alternator cover, that are not fitted on later models. That bike doesn't have them.

I remember the pre-release Kawasaki advert.. 750s beware . They certainly did punch above their weight, and look what they spawned.

Looks reasonable for the money. Knowing the mileage would help. Filters are mounted with the seam upwards so need spinning round. It should run just fine with those if it has air corrector jets fitted. Chuck the points and fit a Dyna 'S'. Low rpm cold rattle he mentions will most likely be the primary chain.

The starter clutch stated "appears fine".
There a sprag type clutch and its engine out to replace. Maybe go and see it?

Thanks lads. Having second thoughts now. And thirds. Think I'll stick to the Mito and invest some time and money on getting my LC done instead. Alex ps in my defence I did see that late in the evening and after some wine...

They are nice bikes. I've been looking but still have a slipped disc, so to heavy for me at present.
