I know dodgy re-stamped frames and engines have always been around, but that seems to be the majority of what is available now?
Have we reached the bottom of the barrel where this is all that’s left as the legit frames and cases have all been bought?
I was mighty pissed off once after travelling to see an LC frame and V5, only to find out it was restamped.

I think the good ones have run out
I enquired about a set of matching ypvs frame/cases
£650 for F1, £700 for Lc2
They were £400 a couple of years ago
And that's Euro with docs, haven't seen a Euro with UK v5 or a UK frame for ages ☹
Every engine just now seems to have fudged numbers

Part of the problem is few years ago we would generally just bin stuff that had been damaged, I bought a supposedly rebuilt motor on Alex’s forum from someone who was well known in the Lc world when I finally stripped it down it was fecked, barrels at 2mm crank needed rebuilding so I, crack in the cases. So I just binned it, std pipes I’ve binned, loads of stuff.

Yes it’s very difficult to find a decent frame Took me a long time to find a decent LC2 frame that wasn’t dodgy or badly rusted , in the end I found a USA one on eBay that was decent on a nova

Jon The biggest source of frames used to be from bikes broken for spares by the ‘body snatchers’. the volume of those is definitely in decline and was accelerated by Brexit, so seems the majority of what’s on the open market is dross from folks just selling the worst condition stuff they have. Shed clear out.... However, this is a little bit if a closed community, if you put a shout out in the wanted section you’d probably create some response. finally as the LC and YPVS frames dry up or get very expensive, I think hybrids build around Aircooled frames with watercooled engines will be become more popular. All very plug and play really.

Problem now is, even aircooled frames are getting expensive - £3-400 is common on ebay??? Then you have the problem of decent aircooled tanks. No good pattern versions of those unfortunately, and they are even older than Lc tanks, so even more rotten ! Seat bases are metal and rotted out long ago - a decent seat is stoopid money now, and the race seat option isn't viable for a road bike in reality. Lc barrels are getting silly, price wise, so converting an Ac into an Lc is not a cheap option, and a complete Lc or Pv engine into an Ac needs frame mods/welding to make it work. The craziness of the last 13 months means there are no cheap(er) projects to be had now. It's pretty demoralising really. I'm close to the end of my 400 hybrid build - normally I would sell it and buy the next project, with enough funds to rebuild said project, but I'm not sure the sale of the 400 would cover a project bike, and the parts/services needed to rebuild it I need a seat lock for my 400. Very thin on the ground. I watched one on ebay a couple of weeks back - had a bid at £25.00. Sold for £80.00 !! Without a key Even if I had the money, I just wouldn't pay it. I might have to find a different hobby soon ! Dusty

Build Airfix for the "fix" or maybe it's time to look at the 4t, there seems to be plenty that haven't been affected by the madness.
I think there is plenty of material around....it's stashed in lofts, on wardrobes, under stairs, in sheds, and in places partners don't know about.

Yea, I would love to do another oil cooled Gixxer (G,H,J), but have you seen the price of those Anything that was cutting edge or ground breaking back in the 70's and 80's now command high prices, even for shitters. You've gotta love the bike if you are going to invest time and money into a rebuild, and the ones on my list are all rising very quickly

I was looking at the prices of CB200s Dusty..... My mate used to get laughed at riding his.... looks like they are starting to be sought after. Cant remember them being "cutting edge" (more like dull drill bit) Maybe they are what we should be really interested in, proper grandad bikes....

I posted recently the madness of a cb250n wet dream being more expensive than a gpz750/1100 because that reflects the reality of riding in the 1980’s

How could you fail your test in the 70's/ early 80's? Twice round the block, stop sharpish when the examiner standing at the side of the road waved to you and answer three questions on the Highway Code, job done!
