Ive been looking at the fuel tank cap/fillers and as usual it looks like Yamaha used the same ones for multiple years. I noted that sellers of the repro caps sell them as being compatible with multiple parts numbers and that some of those on yams systems also supersede etc.
So my question, will say a 2003 R6 cap fit the YPVS?

I bought a billet one for the 3hm1
It didn't fit at first
The OD needed trimmed for it to fit in the hole
May just been poorly made

I'd say yes. I've bought a few over the years for different bikes, all use the same 3 allen screw fixings, plus one inside the cap, with the others fake. Can't say about the R6 in particular, but my guess is they are all the same size & mountings. The Yamaha way.

Pk, FYI.... Bought a 2001 XJR1300 unit and it fits my F2 tank with no issues.

Yes, Yamaha fitted this cap to lots of models, my FZR1000 had the same one as does a mates TDM850, I think the XJ600 and 900 used it too, probably many more.

cool. ta. what is interesting about that one is that it has the rubber gasket, most of the cheapo aftermarket ones dont.

Think that was the problem with the billet one I bought
No rubber so was supposed to be used so take it the ypvs is slightly smaller than the r1 but the rubber compensates for variation

The rubber defo finishes off the gap a lot better and makes the cap look flush.
I'd be keen to try an R1 now to see how that fitted. hmm...
