Was speaking to someone about this bike the other day and he wasn't surprised
He said he knew someone who had an original underscored bike with under 10k miles on it
He sold it last year for £18k 😱
He was saying that's where the collectors put their money. The original unrestored ones

Because they didn’t ask their wives? Anyway not only was it owned by the worlds greatest Lc restorer it’s what all Christians have been searching for it’s the holy grail. Shouldn’t that mean it’s 2000 yrs old n made of wood?

New record for a restored LC. What is an original one valued at...lets say something from Padgetts with 3k miles on the clock. Without the orig tyres...but still on orig inner tubes (minus orig air...damm...thats just knocked a grand of it) Just wish I had its crate...

Not sure it's either but there are lot of adverts that point how much of an investment these bikes (and others) are. In the majority of cases, once something is being described as an investment based on past performance, the horse has bolted. I wouldn't be buying one as an investment, I would hope not to lose money on it but accept that it is quite possible I will at this stage. They were investments a good number of years back when buyers / owners in general didn't realise it. Maybe some are paying the prices thinking it will rise further or just want to look at a clean bike as part of a collection. Some examples are genuine enough, others are talked up but the more you pay based on speculation, the further you can fall. I buy to ride and enjoy first and ignore any of that investment patter as will many.

I buy to ride and enjoy first and ignore any of that investment patter as will many. Totally agree, I bought mine to ride. But it changes things a bit and if they keep going up like this then in five years time I'll sell my fully restored one for a song and give the money to my lad for a house deposit on his 21st birthday. I absolutely love my LC, but it's not worth £20k+ and if they ever get to that money then I'll happily part with it and give my lad a good start in life.

I did notice that a couple of the ads that didn't meet the reserve are back up on eBay, with a more realistic 'buy it now' price.
