Final part of the jetting saga !!!! right, following on from my last post where i was convinced i was almost there with just a hint of hesitation around the 5 k mark i have fitted a reed spacer block in the hope that the flatty would be eliminated completely. Wrong !!! the bloody flat spot was still there so i nipped back home and changed the needle setting and went off testing again ( 1 clip leaner) . nope , it was still there so in desperation i changed the pipes back to std and as if by magic no flat spot ( reed spacer still fitted). however it didnt have the magical pull over 7k like it did with the swarbs ( nor did it have the magical sound or stunning looks and the stds must weigh at least double !) So, my dilema is do i keep trying to jet it myself ( educated trial and error and im usually decent at jetting), Pay for it to be dynoed at mutts nutts in the hope that it can be made better ( which i would hope for) or find somebody who would want to px a set of either mutts midrangers or allspeeds against these swarbricks which obviously would suit either a more tuned bike or a 350 which inherently has more torque. im reluctant to do this as these have only covered 35 miles and are a beautiful well made pipe. Thoughts?

Give Dave a call, he will sort you out. He's moved now to Thorpe Arch between Wetherby and Tadcaster. Not sure how busy he is. Well he's always busy, just how much!

If you visit mutts then at least you will know for sure whether those pipes will work and hopefully they will. But if they don’t you can console yourself with a set of mid range pipes which I can guarantee sound fantastic too. And I’m sure you’ll sell your pipes no problem

They are top end pipes I had a set you need to ride it like your 18 again. Or get some of Dave’s pipes.

Im in the same camp as Veg, and if it goes to Dave's please post the dynograph on here without the dip and explain the changes he made so we can all have a better understanding.

They were designed years ago without the benefit of a dyno I believe whereas Dave’s are designed by him properly

If Dave is busy give NYA bikes at Ossett a call, they are good lads the only connection that I have with them is one of their technical guys is a friend, he has been sorting out the V6 Yamaha that Stan Stephens has built (what a thing that is) so they have the credentials

4750mi is a bit far, but if Dave were closer, my 350LC would have been with him months ago.

If you know what’s good for you, you’ll take at least packets of chocolate biscuits as a peace offering.

Yep as already said they are top end pipes for a 350lc and do work on the 250 but not as well as more modern pipes.

Ill let mr Nuts work his magic and if its still not how i want it ( although im confident after chatting to him) then the pipes will be for sale at the bargain price of £350 ( they have covered 35 miles!) and probably bought by a 350 or tuned bike owner, and i shall bite my tongue and get some midrange pipes. Apparently i cant take my money with me , as the saying goes

And that gents is the difference between a decent riding bike and a great riding bike. you would not believe the difference that bhp increase at that critical point makes. Although the graph shows a tiny flat spot you are through it so quickly you dont notice. whacking the throttle wide open no longer gives a lean bog but now gives instant response. i like it a lot i would never have got to this point by myself as i didnt know the "secret" and it would have been a brave move to do what Dave did without a dyno !

Bit of an update and a question too. Since this post first started i have run the bike with a skimmed/ squished and o ringed head ( thanks mr nutts) which has increased the power once more and also smoothed the torque curve ( seat of the pants dyno) and also fitted v force reeds. Also i have rebuilt the motor as the crank gave out. The bike runs very good and is a pleasure to ride however i had an itch i had to scratch..... mid range pipes ! Anyway i now have some and im just wondering if they need a jetting change from standard? ill be going in the carbs to swap from the jets that go with the swarbricks anyway but i could do with knowing if the mid rangers normally use std jetting. This is just for a baseline and ill do fine tuning with needle and air screw settings as required. Thanks in advance you knowledgeable people and dont forget its a 250.

made to work with stock jetting, might be a tad rich, but as you know, every engine is different, just be careful and check your plugs etc, you'll notice a massive difference with mid range pipes fitted
if you need it back on the dyno give me a shout and I'll sort something out, I am just about back up and running now after my surgery
