Hi, How do you go about checking a stator to make sure its in good working order. need it to be the idiots guide if possible. I've got a few in the shed and thought about selling them to raise funds for the ongoing project. Its really close to being finished after 7 years and just need a few more parts to finish it off. Yes I'm really slow but hopefully get there in the end. Mulimeter on standby !! Cheers Paul

All you need is a multimeter that can accurately measure ohms. Then you just measure the resistance of the various coils and compare the readings to the specified values (from workshop manual) and see if they are within tolerance. That's pretty much it. Plenty of help and advice on here if you need it.

ive just had one rewound low side winding at fault.£85 plus postage www.bbbikeshop.co.uk/acatalog/Yamaha_Alternators.html Jul 19, 2018 at 8:15pm muttsnuts said: pulsar coil white/red to black = 87 +/- 20% exciter coils red to brown = 5.1 +/- 20% brown to black = 273 (I think) +/- 20% Daves figures are correct(ish), 273 should be 271, but the tolerance should be +/-10% at 20deg C OEB

Just FYI and to save people from assuming they’re ok. Annoyingly they can read fine on a static test but start to breakdown when on the bike. I’ve read on here of using a hairdryer to warm them up and retest. Talking from experience and not just lc’s.
