I just set them by the dots in the windows.

I prefer 2 drill bits. 3-4mm. Take the bellows out. Stick the bits in under the slides against the needle and correct for movement. And easier way, but less accurate, is to cut an earwaxstick in half. Remove the idle screws. Stick both halves in against the needle. Check for movement. You need a mirror😉

I used a couple of vacuum gauges last time to set my carbs while the engine is running. Turned out that the slide dimples as these appear thru the windows were spot on.
I guess the gauges were an overkill.. Next time I will just go by the dimples

I try to set the idle screws the same before I put the carbs on. Then I use the dimples as stated above, but I make sure the sight glass has been cleaned on the inside and outside before fitting, and I also drop a bit of paint (white or red usually) into the dimples, then let it dry before fitting the slide into carb body. This makes it much easier to see the dimples when balancing because you need to see them both at same time.

I set the idle screws equally with a small drill bit on the airbox side of the slide before fitting then set the dimples

I don’t use the dimple method anymore. The cables always differ in straightness and flexibility. Synchronicity is important at small throttle openings not at half throttle or more. Try both these methods and you can feel the difference. 😉

Use drill bit under each slide to get the idle screws even (make sure there is slack in the cables or do them off the bike). Obviously, once these are done adjust them both by the same amount. Then adjust the cables so both slides lift together. I usually look down the back of both carbs together and make sure the slides are fully open at the same time so you can just see the bottom edge of the slide disappear. You can do this on the bike with the airbox rubbers removed and a mirror behind the carbs. Make any adjustment on the top adjusters.

I should know this but i can't remember. When looking at the dimples in the slides do you get them so the whole dimple can be seen in the glass or just the top of the dimple? Thanks
