It was really cold today, but the sun was shining and the roads were mainly dry. Mum was having a snooze so I decided to go for a little ride out. Wheeled the Mito out of the workshop and was amazed as she fired up second prod of the starter. I let her warm up properly and tootled over to the nearby petrol station and filled up. Walked inside to pay and the chap there asked me if I had a mask. Seeing I had on a crash helmet I thought this was a bit odd...and he concurred. Paid up and rode down towards Chertsey and then turned left to ride past the Thames towards Laleham. Hardly any other traffic about at all. Nailed it a bit from Laleham to Ashford then did the 'de rigour' jaunt down the dual carriageway. Really hammered it along that road, still no traffic, then did a loop de loop and came back the same way. Got back and parked the bike away, was only then I realised how cold I was! But it was great fun, only about half an hour. Hoping to get a few more rides in like this.

I miss those days when I had to thaw out my hands in a puddle after breaking the ice.... I miss the snow and sleet and the shite non water proof waterproofs. And I remember the 3 pairs of gloves with the wax cotton overmitts. I remember it all everyday when I see my fookin hands with their bendy f**king arthritic f**king fingers!! Modern kit is so much better!! That day dipping my hands in that puddle is etched in my memory, the pain.... It was on the A6 by the bridge at Churchtown Fair play Alex... if you can...Do It!!

My most vivid memory of winter riding was heading back to Yorkshire from Hertfordshire one Christmas on a DT175MX... a long journey on a slow bike on a good day. It was already dark when I set off, and by half way there it was freezing fog. My gear wasn't that bad, but my gloves did f**k all to keep the cold out. I remember stopping in a layby freezing my tits off to have a smoke and to try and warm up, and that absolute agony as your hands go from cold to warm again. I do miss the cold of the UK a bit, but not been that cold!

Fond memories of winter riding thinking your fingers will snap off with the cold.

I once broke down on my 750 Turbo while it was snowing. Parked up on car park waiting for breakdown recovery truck. Fell asleep sitting/lying on bike while waiting. I was covered in snow by the time the breakdown truck arrived.

My fondest memory of riding in all weather was circa 1985, riding in the snow at night with no fear whatsoever. The snow was coming at my visor like some kind of Star Trek warp speed and I just laughed when I slid off round corners. Oh how times have changed! 🤣

rode my old RS250 to work early one winter morning with out any gloves, had to keep stopping to thaw out my fingers on the engine.. the gloves, i had left at the parents house.. The thing i have never worked out was how did i get the bike back to mine with no gloves in the first place, I would normally have tucked them in my helmet which I had with me..

i actually get a sorta perverted pleasure from winter riding, not on the LC but on my MT09...
worse episode was waking up one easter time in my tent at Donny after the transatlantic races (sometime in the 80s) to find a foot of snow.. fair enough but the problem was i had to ride the whole way back to Northern Ireland !!!!!!!!!!!!! took a while lol
