Hi, I'm new to the forum, and have a few bikes including an rd125lc. However I have been offered a mint UK RD500 in Kenny Roberts colours with approx 27k miles. Does anyone have an idea of its value as I'm struggling to decide with the current market. Any ideas?

Any ideas? have a look at this thread rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/50472/rd500-rg500-opinionsPrices seem unrealistic both for rd500 and rg500's the for some years now but if you can afford the asking price why not pull the trigger. Be sure to have a long test ride before buying if you have not ridden these bikes before as not to be disappointed. Cheers

Its mint, and £9.5k he's come down from 13k. Thinking of investment opportunity over a few years, but hard to price a bike in thus economic climate.

I wouldnt over think it if its a running bike and mint as you say....9.5k is basket case restoration on NOVA territory, have a look at the "sold" listings on eBay. If you genuinely cant decide, send me the sellers details ...

I think pull the trigger and enjoy it, always puts a smile on my face when I swing a leg over mine. Don't know about buying bikes for investment.. Cheers

Forget the "current market" Do you want it or not! and if you are contemplating it...you can afford it. If you do have probs with it, it will cost more than a LC125 to fix. No time like the present.....

No time like the present..... 100% agree with all of the above. And if you don't want, I hope that it goes to a genuine person who wants to use/ride it rather than sell it on to make a quick buck.

Adie, if your uncertainty is simply about the price....don’t hesitate...it’s a bargain as long as it does what it says on the tin!
If you are generally not sure you want a 500, that’s a whole diferent topic. Many dimensions to that aspect.

Sorry fellas, but I reckon This is some sort of wind up ! No one in their right mind would sell one of these for £9.5K, yet alone a mint one ..

Its a genuine sale. The bloke needs cash quick. I know its a good deal, but would prefer a 350lc to to 500. I don't want to be stuck with a bike like this to invest and not go up in value. I'm probably being over cautious on investing the cash, but have concerns if it needs an engine rebuild once ridden due to being stood for so long with an occasional start up.

Bikes are generally terrible investments as they always need money spending on them, trust me I have 'invested' tens of thousands in a fleet of vehicles that are never finished, and even when they are they need upkeep.
Do they go up in value? maybe. will it always be thus? maybe. I think you'd be better investing in other things and should seek professional advice really.

Well I apologise if it’s genuine , just sounds to good to be true ! I think you have to want one like others have said, running costs will be considerably more than a 350 especially if something goes drastically wrong. Not sure as an investment , there are other items that don’t have the running costs / up keep of a bike , especially a bike such as this. Someone suggest cherished Number plates to me once 🤔

Adie....being brutal...,if you are in it just for financial gain they you don’t really need our advice...buy it, flip it, and look for next step. The obvious concern is why are you being ‘targeted’ for the sale?....if it’s too good to be true and you didn’t initiate then dialogue, then maybe a there is problem of some type. Vehicles are generally a terrible investment...unless you plan to use them or unless you are uber rich, playing with exotica and taking advantage of some ludicrous capital gains exemptions that exist.

A few years ago I was looking for an Elsie and after being mucked about on a bike I wanted I gave up on that particular bike and bought a Black n Red 500LC. Now I never had a 500 as a kid although did have Elsies, so I had more connection to the Elsie.
After a year or so of ownership I just wasn't into the 500 so sold it for what I paid for it quite easily.
Since then I now have a beautiful new build Elsie and another I'm rebuilding to become a slightly pepped up 400LC. I also have another 500 ( Red n White) and this time with the 500 I've had the carbs off & apart, changed the brakes and generally gotten to know it a bit unlike my previous one. I'm now waiting for my Jim Lomas pipes for it and looking forward to using it a bit. Have a couple of pther 2 strokes & 4 strokes so what I'm saying is that I don't need to get every experience from just one bike.
If your heart is in it for an Elsie, there's your answer. The 500 is essentially x2 TZR/TDR motors so it's not overly complicated, but is certainly move involving than the Elsie to work on, fettle and get running right - but what a lovely motor it is and those 4 pipes do it for me!
The bike you are talking about is an absolute steal at that price even if it's half shed (which is always the case in my experience of anything someone says is great!).
If I were in y9ru position I'd buy the 500 in a heartbeat, try it and then if you're still hankering after an Elsie either buy it as well as or instead of the 500..
As has been said before me, if you don't want that 500 then I'll have it!

Think at that price it is cheap compared to what else is around
Biggest question I would be asking was engine rebuild history
Lying for a long time is one thing but at 27k I'd have expected as a minimum the cranks have been serviced
If that's not had new mains and a crank refresh at 27k miles it is lucky is hasn't lunched itself
If not then it's about to shart itself very soon as usually happens in the low 20's
