Hi Lads,
Has anyone had experience of converting an RD500 KMH Speedo to MPH?, or even know if it is possible or not?.
I know replacement faces are available for the 250/350 4L0/1, and clever people have re-geared them to read and record correctly, but I’ve not heard of anyone doing this conversion on the 500?.
I always say this, but as ever, any help would be greatly appreciated.
All the best Iain.

Should just be the same Iain
I've fitted new face decals to a 150mph 500/350r/tzr Speedo. They are essentially the same as the f2 Speedo, just the digits go round further

Can you not just buy an fz750 Speedo and swap the needle?

Hi Steve, That’s a very good suggestion... does the FZ use a 16” front wheel?, as I’d need the speedo drive too presumably?.

Speedo drive will be fine. Think it is 16 inch wheel but a km bike and a mph bike have the same drive
If you look at the Speedo drives 60 mph and 100 kph are in the same place

If it’s any help, I had an 86 FZ750 back in the day and it definitely had a 16” front wheel. I believe they changed to a 17” wheel after 88

I believe they changed to a 17” wheel after 88 Yep, 85 - 88 FZ has the same wheels as the RD500, 89 - 91 has the same size wheels as FZR600, might be the same wheels, which in theory means you could put late FZ wheels straight into an RD500
