Hello,
I’m just stripping down the engine on my RD350R that has been stood in a garage for 13yrs!!
I’ll have the crank and gear assembly out shortly. I was going to take them to a local Yamaha dealer to get them measured and checked for wear (and rust) after being stood for so long. Will they be able to tell if the bearings have rusted and are serviceable or would I be better off just having the crank completely rebuilt and replacing the gearbox bearings as a matter of course. Even if any wear appears to be within limits!!
Thanks for your advice
Jim

Hi , it makes sense to put a refreshed crank and new crank seals in the engine . Have a look in Norbo's shop on here for an exchange crank .

The condition of the crank can only be assessed properly by stripping it completely.

Agreed
You can't see pitting on the big end crank pins on the centre assembly without stripping it

I have been down this road myself years ago with my yamagamma . Took the top end off to check bore / piston clearance and removed the pistons to measure up and noticed rusting in the small end eyes . Oh dear i thought, the rest cant be to good .

Thanks for all the advice 👍
I’ll replace/exchange the crank and fit new seals and gearbox bearings etc.
