Has anyone else had trouble with Dremel tools?
I'm on my 3rd Dremel 3000 in just over 3 years and this one has just packed in on me again.
Managed to claim under warranty once before. I stripped and got this one going again about 3 months ago, but now runs intermittently. I'm only a casual user of this tool, and love it when its working fine.
Have I been unlucky or is this a common fault.
Any better alternatives?

My second one died about a month ago
First one started running slower then ground to a halt so take it the motor burnt out
The second one just stopped. Was doing a little job and it was working. Stopped to change position and it wouldn't go again so take it the speed controller failed
Like you I haven't bought a 3rd as a bit disappointed

My Dremel (240V powered) must be over 20 years old, never had any problems with it.

As above mine is 15 years old and perfect. Perhaps they did a Mercedes thing and cut back on R&D. German stuff used to be a byword for quality products, seems not so now.

I have 2. The first one somehow I managed to break the spindle lock and rather than fix it i bought a 2nd one to use that day and instead fitted a flex shaft to the first one and used Dremels small chuck on it (really nice product as you can fit anything like an ebay burr, random drill bits etc to the dremel once you have that). I still use it as my main dremel as it hangs over my bench. Ive snapped and rewelded the flex shaft inner cable multiple times. I even bought a new flex but havent ever connected it as the most recent welded repair is holding up.
The 2nd one just died one day and to be honest I wasnt happy as it was hardly used, certainly compared to the first one. Googled what it might have just stopped and found the thin wires of the windings are un-supported where they leave the coils and can snap in use due to vibration. Never throw or drop a dremel...
I stripped it and yep, that was it. Easy repair so long as the wire is the last one and not the first one on the coil. I messed up mine and decided i had the time so unwound and rewound the coil on that side. It took ages, it has a lot of turns! lol.
I will say that it works like a charm again now. But... in the UK a new motor is about 7 quid, so I will buy one next time if the wires are not the last wire which is a simple 'unwind one turn and solder back on'.
Are they perfect? no... are they cheaply made now, yep for sure. Its the modern world you just get that. They are still invaluable tho and I use mine a lot.

That's how I repaired mine last time. Seems like i need to strip it down again grrr. Expected a bit more reliability.

I have one about 7 or 8 years, it packed in about a year after getting it, the speed started alternating then finally died, got it fixed and has been going fine since. its a 300.

Mines a 3000 model, and as mentioned above its 3rd failure in just over 3 years. Shame because I love the tool. Daft as it seems I'm tempted to buy an old 2nd hand one as they made them better in the old days! Unless anyone can recommend a decent alternative?

you really need to hold the drill solid Tony if doing that. having a flailing drill isnt at all ideal :/
There are pro alternatives to Dremels, but no cheaper versions. Porting tools and jewellers engraving stations etc.
Ive had two failures in 2 dremels and one of those I probably did doing something silly. For the price of the tool and how useful it is i reckon its fine. Id be upset of i broke one a year, but thats not been the case for me. For an electric device that spins this fast its really been pretty solid.

For the money the Lidl/Aldi versions that come round from time to time are worth a punt too. Mine came with the flexi wand attachment too,...I haven't used the whole thing much but for my hobby use at least, it's been great so far.

I've never been that impressed with the Dremmels I've had (3 up to date). I have bought the Lidl/Aldi Parkside copy, and they've been as good as a Dremmel for about a third of the price. Dremmel cutting discs and accessories do seem the best quality though. Dusty

Bought my first Dremel 10 years ago and still working after loads of abuse! Think bearings are worn as is lock button to change bits etc. Just bought a new one before old one breaks mid job. Will see how long this one lasts. Not feeling too confident in new one lasting as long!

I use a die grinder air tool for anything that would tax a dremel. Half decent ones are twenty quid or so.

But it does have a tool tub that looks like you can get into it without a PhD. Let us know how you get on with this, looks to be a Dremel clone.

Just opened it up, plugged it in and can confirm it makes a whirry noise and the ends goes round 😁 A few good points over the Dremel The on/off is separate to the speed control dial so easier switching on and off at the same speed Comes with a spare set of brushes The tools have a thicker shank but there are 3 different sets of chuck collets so should work with Dremel and the cheap bits with the thinner shank Loads of tool bits Only slight negative is the box the tools are in is cracked, made of a brittle plastic and not packed very well but that's no biggy, plenty of tubs in the garage Only lots of use and time will tell Steve

Thanks for the feedback. I've ordered one as a back up as also found the field motor for my Dremel at £15 delivered so giving it one last chance.

Yes, I do believe that it were one of the early ones, certainly cost a lot of money back then too.
