Thanks pal Yes I’ve seen some that appear to be resin based I wonder if people have used these with success ? I guess so as tanks seem super duper rare !

I opened the bottom of a TZR3MA tank (rot) and found the sealer (resin I believe) had separated in 75% of the inside into flakes. I believe cleaning is the most important part of the process. If you have reasonable thickness of metal it might be better to explore alternatives. I had to blast the tank inside & the seams were a pig.

Depends if its surface rust inside or a hole thats leaking Agreed, more info required but either way fill it with cleaning agent see what's there. Once the sealer is used there's no going back without surgery.

Empty it out, wash tank out with soapy water, or i powerwash mine, dry with a hairdryer (inside0 then coat with wd40 to stop flash rusting, I`ve done this 3 times and worked every time.

Cheers pal Sounds good Much appreciated!! Whilst you’re there, is it possible to get an mph speedo face for a mk1 LC to replace the kmh one ? I didn’t really want to get into modifying the guts of the clocks if possible

I got mine with holes in the base so I was cutting it out anyway. But even if you have small holes lead load/ solder it. Empty tank while parked up over long periods you'll be back to rust again.

I've sold quite a few tanks from Europe, but kicking myself now as need some myself The ethanol in the Unleaded fuel strips the zinc coat then starts to corrode. I bought bikes 15 years ago from Switzerland that mint tanks, so I reckon they'd been stored away before they used ethanol as an additive. I found a bike with the grey epoxy layer inside, they had cut a square out the bottom of the tank probably to help clean it out, rewelded it then lined it with epoxy. However when i got the bike it had peeled down and fuel would splash over the side inbetween the layers. It works, but you have to be very thorough and hope for a bit of luck.
I cleaned a tank with white vinegar then sealed the inevitable flash rust with Rust Remedy. I use a fuel stabilizer and hope for the best.

I can spare a rust free rd125lc tank if you need one, As far as de rusting a tank you cant beat DEOX-C Makes it so easy. Regards John.

Hi John, I think we just had a chat on FB
The last tank I tried was for a friends 250LC this July and I had ordered Deox-C for the first time (I also ordered some of their hand cleaner to make the most of the postage ) It was a lot quicker than white vinegar as you say, but this tank was so bad it needed two tries..... and then it holed It has put me off so I'll probably give up on rusty tanks and would welcome a PM from you with a price for one of your tanks.
The mistake I made with my friend's, was telling him the tank looked solid where I always see the RD125 ones hole (front right). And this 250 unexpectedly (for me) holed further back on the right side.
Regards Michael

We do at least 1 tank de-rust and liner a week on various bikes. The only product we ever used is flowliner. We always use bio rust first to remove any rust and etch the inside of the tank first. Preparation is the key to lining a tank and make sure when it comes to lining it make sure you give it 100% of your attention.
