Been putting the decals on my 2 stripe mars bar and see conflicting info in the Yam brochure and press pics online. Didnt we have a thread for the exact locations once? I cant find it now. Defo keen to have some approved (green passivated Anorak zipper brigade) info to follow

Hi Jon I deliberately did not post close up pic's on any of the decal location\position in the reference pics on my web site for this very reason. Even the bikes these pictures were taken from the position of the decals varied.

I think they were manually fitted and hence some variance depending who did it and day of the week etc.

Colin, I'd still have loved to see those pics, they are still a record of what was 'original' even if it was just for that bike.

Hello Jonw, I'm from the anorak brigade of course. As already said, the fuel tank sticker had different positions: mainly below the cap as on the pic below and as well above sometime. And here above: Xavier

The main things I need are pics of the ducktail from the top and side and the tank from the side. Happy to have lots of pics added here and then pick what looks best from the 'who was on decals this week' factory placement

Got my original white/red stripe tank and panels in the loft, in dire need of a respray but still wearing original graphics. If this is any good to you I’ll get some pictures. By duck tale do you mean the rear panel over the light?

I had a tank like that, absolutely perfect without any dents etc, stripped it down, and the bottom is full of holes, been in a garage for 20+ years too.

I hate wonky decals, especially the Yamaha word on the fuel tank. I have a picture of my brand spanking new RD125LC in 1983 before I had even ridden it and the Yamaha on the left side of the tank was way wonky and so was the Yamaha on the front fairing above the headlight

Got a couple of tanks as well if you want those pics? I think they have the fuel decals on them as well. I believe the original tail piece decals are always in fitted in two pieces to go round the grabrail mount. But seen some people go through or underneath.
Whatever you're happy with I suppose. I try to be as accurate as possible to the brochure pics.

Supercool! Thanks Got a couple of tanks as well if you want those pics? I think they have the fuel decals on them as well. I believe the original tail piece decals are always in fitted in two pieces to go round the grabrail mount. But seen some people go through or underneath. Yes, Im wondering now why do my imageworks decals not have an obvious hole in them that i can see thru the backing for the grab rail? Or did they just print the decal the full length and then there is a cut in them? I'll need to check that... I'd hate to have to try and cut out those holes with a stanley knife :/ All the press pics on Xaviers site have a cut out for the grab rail... www.rd350lc.net/pageWORLD-4L0.htm

Guy at the Image works cut round mine with a scalpel , think there’s always a chance of tearing if you just try and go underneath or through...

I don't think any aftermarket decals are cut to fit the grabrail, that's why I suppose they are placed at all sorts of angles, and distances from the rear, to avoid the grabrail mounts, (especially if you're not sure what they were like from the factory) Just an easy/modern way to print them at a guess. Plus they're not petrol proof like the genuine stuff either

I will check later.

The OEM decal is supplied in one piece but is marked where the grabrail cut out should be made.
