When I look at the various builds and pics etc I sometimes see both upper and lower crankcase halves in natural finish, yet with others I see the upper in black and the lower in natural.
Did it change by model or year?
I'm trying to find out what my 1983 31k LC2 would have had as can't see any indication it had a black upper.

YPVS was alloy lower, satin black upper
LC was alloy top and bottom

YPVS was alloy lower, satin black upper LC was alloy top and bottom Steve Thanks Steve, These are my crankcases, must have been vapour blasted at some point in its 37 year life. Presumably I need to get both halves vapour blasted again (think its due again!) and paint the upper part then.

Don’t think they’ve ever been vapoured, too much black around the sides, looks like a DIY strip or it’s just suffered from neglect, it’ll look completely fresh with a vapour blast.
