I can’t believe how much “shall we say” differing information there is on these bikes, just looked on Norbo’s info page and he’s got the LC (350) weighing in at 315 lbs and the LC2 weighing in at 361 lbs, a 46 lbs difference..( just over 20 kg) , I would of thought he’d of published this info on a like for like basis ? I’m Sure some of the old hands can provide the correct information to clear this anomaly up ??

Dry weight of the LC2 is 145kg just 2kg heavier than the 4LO. Not according to my haynes manual, and there’s definitely a big difference pushing them around as well as driving

If you actually think about the equipment and frame on a lc2 it has to be at least 20 kilo heavier, unless all the weight is in the 530 chain on a lc😀

Google YPVS sales brochure and look at images and the top left pic 145kg do the same for the 4LO and it's 143kg.I have the original brochures but don't use any hosting sites.

But like i said actually think about it the brochure has to be wrong with the equipment on a lc2 bigger forks , fairing, bigger brakes remote adjustment on the shock as well as the extra bracing on the frame ,ypvs equipment, and i had both in my garage at the same time and my lc feels like a 125 compared to the lc2 check this out www.rd350lc.net/pageSPECS.htm

I went from 4L0 to 31K and the 31K felt and rode like a much bigger bike in comparison. I would say something closer to 20kg than 2kg. Like the horse power claims I would take Yamahas weight figures with a pinch or rather big cup of salt. I'm not sure about straight out of the showroom but certainly after a bit of tweaking the F1 is the fastest LC. We tried all sorts with my mates F2 and even with production tuned barrels it wouldn't rev. My other mates F1 was a flyer and he won a stack of races on it against lots of different bikes 600's included, fast rider as well though. I had a production tuned 4L0 and then the production tuned 31K and the 31K had hands down more power everywhere. The thing is if your'e riding it properly on a track you shouldn't be dropping down into the power valve boosted mid range really but that's what I found myself doing. I needed to learn to thrash the noodles off it and ignore the mid range but it was there if I c@cked up Interestingly an F2 was the only LC I ever knew that blew up or seized without ever having anything done to it, totally standard. Yamaha claimed more power for the F2/N2 and lighter weight. I'm inclined to believe both but just not the numbers. The F2/N2 had cut-away wheels making them lighter and the inlet ports were similar to my production 31K but I believe the ignition stopped them revving. In short if you want to build the best LC using LC parts you want an F1 engine in a 4L0 chassis with F2 wheels.........watch this space but be prepared for a long wait

F2s definitely have a rev limiter at about 10,500rpm that retards the ignition to stop the bike revving, the early 31K bikes with mechanical rev counters definitely don't have rev limiters, I don't know about the F1/N1 bikes.

It's the cdi that affects the revving
If you look at the lc2 and the f1 they are both the same engine, carbs and pipes but different cdi's
Both claim 59hp but lc2 at 9000 and f1 at 9500
In comparison the f2 is at 8500

Don't the F1/N1s have electronic rev counters fed from the cdi, is the hole for the mechanical drive still in the upper crank case?

The F1/N1 and N2/N2 had electronically driven rev counters They are triggered from the pv trigger signal between the cdi and the pv controller The LC2 had a mechanically driven tacho but still has the cdi to pv controller signal If you connect an electronic tacho from an f1/2 it will work 😉 Steve

Oh and yes they still had the hole in the case
Only the later R model doesn't

So what’s the final consensus on dry weight then ?

F2s definitely have a rev limiter at about 10,500rpm that retards the ignition to stop the bike revving, the early 31K bikes with mechanical rev counters definitely don't have rev limiters, I don't know about the F1/N1 bikes. It seemed to be more like 9,500rpm to us. My F1 with some F2 race pipes, that is Formula 2 race series not F2 YPVS, would rev on to 11,500 and beyond if I let it. I never found the limit to be honest. I suspect they were not doing the engine, the crank to be more precise, any favours They were ridiculously loud as well so I took them off and put some F2 YPVS pipes on it. I don't think they did it any favours power wise.

So what’s the final consensus on dry weight then ? 4L0 lightest, F1 heaviest,N1, N2, N1, F2 somewhere in between We've just spent 5k on some weigh cells at work. When the LC is finished I'll pop it on them

When the LC is finished I'll pop it on them I find it hard to believe that there is much in it with the F1 and F2 (which with the fairing must be heavier it stands to reason), certainly the difference in weight of the later wheels/disks is no more than 1kg. I'm not sure how much the bodywork/tank and frame changes would be, maybe nothing at all? Would any of us feel a couple of kgs on a wet-weight bike? Possibly the unsprung weight, but even then... well... Agree the LC highly likely the least weighty, a lot less to it.

Possibly the unsprung weight, but even then... well... Agree the LC highly likely the least weighty, a lot less to it. My logic was that the F1 is virtually a 31K with a full fairing. The clocks are lighter than the kidney type (probably) and the forks are probably lighter as well. The fairing will be heavier than the little fairing and belly fan of the 31K. I don't have any 31K wheels but the F2 wheels I've got have a lot of metal 'cut away' from the hub. Then there's the obvious 'gap' between the 'spokes'. I would weigh them but they are up in the top of the garage and have no bearings or spacers. While I had some fishing scales in my hand the other night I weighed some discs. The YPVS discs were the lightest by far, about half the LC disc weight. The RD200 disc weighed much more than the YPVS disc. I'll put some numbers to these when I get back in the garage. I noticed the weight difference when I fitted Allspeeds on my LC.

Steve, I weighed the F2 vs early wheels / disks once, about 300g a wheel and 300g the disks.

Thanks! Its very chalk and cheese between the CB and the XT. I probably will sell the CB when I get myself sorted with the LC, as I dont think I can part with the XT, which is such a laugh to ride

I always think mine (on 17"s) is the size of a moped like a DT50, but with almost 40bhp. How could anyone not like that
