Just saw a facebook (yea yea) notification where a legal 125 rider pulled a wheelie from some traffic lights ; the car driver behind had a dash cam .
the car driver sent the footage to the police and the rider was fined and had 3 points on his license .

That's a slap on the wrist. I got 10 points for my RD400 Wheelie. There again I was overtaking on double white lines with the front wheel in the air in 3rd gear !!! It was in the 70's so surely that was a legal overtake back then...

When I rode my 250e in the late 70's early 80's it was like the wild west. it was WOT or braking, nothing in between. I got caught doing 82 down a 30 by an unmarked plod (2.2 lotus sunbeam) looking back , maybe I should have been more vigilant

He got off lightly,..... dangerous driving, retest and banned for a year this White Dalton Motorcycle Solicitor says.

40 years ago (roughly) I was pulled for doing a wheelie on my kettle, I told the copper that I had only just got it and wasn't used to the power ! He said to f off and not let him catch me effing about again !
Not sure that you can get off so easily now

I was stopped for a wheelie forty years ago and the policeman said "Can't you control the bike?" I wanted to say "Didn't you see me? Perfect control." I stayed silent and copped the fine.

The car driver needs a good boot in the bollox first of all.
i lost the books twice in the 80s for removing the front wheel from the tarmac, in fairness the second one was worth it lol..

WOW, so if your on private land you can still end up contravening the road traffic act? I used to ride a DT125 on some waste land when I was 13 and probably could have been prosecuted, but in them days it would never have happened. Plod used to come down now and again and asked us to keep the noise down

When I wanted to teach my kids to drive I looked into what private land meant in regards to being prosecuted. From what I gathered your garden for example is private land. But if thereβs public access like a path across a private field then you need to be legal.

It was great in the 80s when the police had to actually catch you or you got away,I loved it when they replaced the petrol MK2 Escorts with the diesel MK3 they never stood a chance.Bunch of tossers.

I held the local police in low esteem then, maybe not so much now, a couple of my mates are serving Police, but I loved it back then when they chased me and I got away, I will always remember the Police from the 1980s as t**ts because they were.

I'd say that there are more t**ts now than back in the 80's to be honest,...because back then more of them seemed to actually know the laws they were enforcing and could use their discretion shall we say, now that seems to have gone out of the window.

Interesting that the UK law is no mirrors, tho I do vaguely remember that was always the case. Here is Aus (well defo in NSW) you need both mirrors... sigh.

I have a factory CCM710 supermoto, had it since 2004. I remember pulling an absolute minger of a wheelie away from some lights, going up a hill and kept it pinned into 3rd.. Spotted a police car coming the other way and thought 'bollox'..
put the front end down and saw him doing a U turn at the lights and knew he'd be behind me. Had the wife behind on her bike..
I just pulled over up the road and waited for him.
He went flying past at about 80mph. turned around and came back again.
He said that he didn't think I would've stopped. Gave me a warning and had a giggle..
different times now...

I think the average copper has more on their plate now than they did 40 odd years ago, what ever you think of them ,they are short staffed and working to budgets etc dealing with mental people who clearly would not have been on the streets back then and are constrained by racism and snowflakes in general. They don't have the swagger that they did in the 80s and these days I reckon they don't have time for hooligans on motorbikes. Everything seems to rely on video evidence which is fast becoming the norm everywhere you go there seems to be a camera. I am crap at wheelies so it doesn't effect me.

I was in the garage this afternoon with the radio on and West Yorkshire police had an advert on encouraging people with dash cams to grass up law breakers, I bet there's plenty of folk out on the roads enjoying their new power.

Like with many a job nowadays, the whole hitting monthly 'targets' and 'box ticking' wasn't that much of a thing 40 odd years ago either,....I've heard of a couple of people recently who left the force because of this funny enough.

Similar to Reggie.. A number of year ago a new section of road opened up near me so i thought i'd bring the Bandit there for a bit of craic.. While on the back in about fourth gear i notice a Garda coming towards me on a motorbike..So i go by him and drop the bike and pull over ..He does a u- turn and asked me why i pulled over.." I don't think i would of caught you " he says... Didn't ask for any documents. We have a bit of small talk and he heads on his merry way with the parting words " mind yourself"...
