All too easy to give someone the whole V5 and assume they will do the right thing...unfortunately These days there are many many things that can go wrong . Fortunately you can Now do the keeper transfer online and get A confirmation email....it’s made life a lot easier... hate to admit it but the barrier to doing it the right way was... first find the mrs,....ask where’s an envelope....then ‘what you done with my stamps’ ....usual reply....I used them up but it’s ok I have some more ..they’re in my handbag.... at which point the will to live already parted my mortal bones...Feeling like captain oats...if I go in there I maybe sometime and defo not coming back... If that wasn’t enough...now got to find my glasses to read the Send to DVLA address...cause if you don’t put exact address with postcode ...just put DVLA Swansea it will come back.....ask me how I know.... Ahhhhhhhhhh. So, some online stuff has made life better....just not everything www.gov.uk/sold-bought-vehicle

Yeah mate, I know they don't need a warrant anymore, just a suspicion will do, they can enter your home too, don't bother arguing with them, they use the obstructing the law chestnut then, they are like a bunch of thugs these days, unless outnumbered, then you can do as you wish as they don't want wars, if your on your own never argue anymore. A mate of mine pulled up outside my house, he had just hit someone up the rear and drove off in his car, pissed I might add, anyway in he came wondering what to do, with that the car he hit pulled up too on the phone to the law, off he went out the back, a couple mins later knock on door 3 bruiser large cops, the driver was seen entering this property, whats your name, I said f@*&£!" they say were you driving, I say no, they say we want to come in, I say f@*&^%$£"! were is your warrant, we don't need 1, guy that got hit said it wasn't him, in they come looking for my mate, out the back they go and find him, throw him on the floor, handcuff him and brake his finger in the process, 1 radios in saying householder obstructive and threatens to arrest me too, F@?><*&^%$£"! power crazy F*&^%$££"! good job your pissed mate only hit a car , hopefully he wont be on the road for time mart

Funny how people hate the old bill till they need them. Now if your mate had hit a member of your family, your child? Your mum? how would you feel? Not grassing them up then are we? Hate the coppers who keep the country from anarchy? Hate the old bill trying to take scag of the streets do you? Hate the old bill dealing with the consequences of murders, supporting the families? Do you? Hate the old bill protecting children and the vulnerable from the animals that prey on them do you? Whatever you come back with most coppers have done more with their lives and helped build a decent society far better than you have, sacrificed far more and made more of a difference. So crawl back under your rock you sad little trolling man. Anth sorry to hear about the poor service you got, the police since 1986 pace act haven’t needed a warrant with reasonable suspicion. Sounds like they could have handled it better, however you don’t know what had happened the riders speed could have resulted in an accident that they’d dealt with and they were angry , not excusing their attitude just trying to put context into the equation.

Yes I can see where your coming from veg mate and I agree it should of and could of been handled completely different and if that where the case mate it would have been no issue,,, I have served in the military for ten years when younger I have worked as a doorman for the same in the worse shit holes in the North East and was in much demand after I built up a reputation of being good at it never heavy handed like most I knew,, I have worked with police in both these citations from the pc up to e14 and Irish garda,, so yes it could have been handled in a better way, but as you say I don't know the ins and outs of the thing, but once it was established it was not I,, it should have changed direction for the police but it just got suspicion and like I was lieing,, which the facts said different,, not all are like this I agree, and I've never ever needed as of yet a police officer in any way,,, so when Im on the receiving end of the pointed finger it just makes one discouraged let's say mate,,, the image of the police for years is getting worse and its unnerving let's say

Yawn yawn yawn let me tell I’ve dealt with bigger harder and nastier b*****ds, the average scrote talks a good talk does not a lot else, snitches get snitches do you really think you’re f**king Tony Montana what whack the snitch, grow up. Most scrotes have no zero nada honour they’d grass up their mum if it kept them safe. You are either deluded, a fantasist or you really are Tony Montana.

Some of them are shiteheads and power crazy but the one that put his blues and twos on to catch me up this evening as I excited a slip road onto the A5 at about 130, then spotted him, shat myself, "discreetly" tried to slow to 70 and have him drive next to me , wag his finger and then fooked off, was all good with me....
PS I also forgot to report a change of keeper on a Mini I owned back in the late 80s, it was sold on to someone else who also ignored the change of keeper bit (deliberately I think) and was used in a burglary in London ... I was turfed out of bed at midnight with my Mum and Dad also firing questions at me as well as the law.
Learnt my lesson then, as said, its a doddle to do it online now.

Possibly I'm to blame to an extent for trusting the dealership to sort the dvla side of things,, my bad but as I said there knocking on another door and they no doubt will catch the individual,,, I don't know wot they train the police these days but an example,,, I was told this by a police officer years ago, the type of cars I've had in the past where let's say sporty, I was constantly getting pulled for wot ever reason usually a spot check,, how can a twenty Yr old afford that type of thing I'd guess so constantly pulled and given the old producer, and the verbal , now to the point I was told next time you get pulled don't sit in the car stop safely and get out walk up to the officer and say how can I help you officer, and see them change and it works every time, faxmct is they are trained to control the citation and talk in a manner which does this, now Wif one gets out the car they are not in control of you or the citation and there like a deer in the headlights,, they don't know wot to do and it's more polite and civilised let's say we'll I have found that anyway,,, unless you truly done wrong and then your feckd lol,, but try it and see the difference

Could I just add a few observations
When you sell, it is the registered V5 persons responsibility to notify DVLA they have sold it. The DVLA send a letter stating you are no longer the owner, usually with a few days. It is the sellers responsibility to remove their ownership from the V5 When a motoring offence occurs the police can only use the registered owner details to trace that person If a vehicle is insured in a persons name, regardless of the fact they own the vehicle( i.e. they sell it but do not cancel the insurance) the policy holder is liable for any insurance claim If the police suspect a crime they are on high alert should, If the person they interview is not 100% cooperative they suspicions rise even more.
It's easy to see how things escalate when the police follow the standard lines of investigation
The solution is always to diffuse the situation and avoid any confrontation. It's easy to observe from the outside, and I can see both sides of accuser and the accused

Mellor mate yes I can see that and as I said earlier I'm partly to blame for trusting the dealership I sold it to,, the r1 I sold is not insured in my name cancelled day it went,, so as you say just gone of the dvla v5 info that's cool,, but it was the attitude of said police before and as stated after it was clearly factually obvious it was no longer in my possession, and I no way could of said offence have been committed by myself, then they turn there attention to the hybrid build in my garage,,, which had zero to do with anything,, but I can see your point mate,, just put it down to bad policeing by keen officers to get a tick on the quota for the month,, and yes I know for a fact they do that,,,

|

It's a lot easier online now, takes about 1 minute to inform DVLA that you've sold it (private sale or to a Trader)

Anth they don’t they truly truly truly dont have a quota. However if they haven’t done certain pieces of ‘process’ when they are in their probation they are encouraged to go out and do them, or if they haven’t done one for a while they’ll be encouraged to do it. The process is less about revenue raising most process has no monetary benefit or fine but about teaching the officer the procedures or if a neighbourhood watch has raised certain problems the area commander will allocate officers to do it. You’re attitude test is true, when I was uniform for my two years probation I’d stop people I was and still am polite to them got nowt to prove, however you fail the attitude test id make sure you knew it. You wouldn’t get away with talking like shit to anyone else in society so why think you can do it to the old bill. Same as when you were doing the door people ok with you , no probs, act like a dick get a slap.
