Hi all Thoughts please Going to try and see if we can 3dprint a battery strap😳 The original shape is very complex and to be honest almost not worth the time printing Want to go for a more simple but practical design as shown in the pictures below What does everybody think to the design? Tried to make the design pleasing to the eye but hopefully easier to print As always comments welcome Best wishes Al

Is it possible to include some raised lugs on the outside into which you could clip the battery connectors? You would probably have to lose the '0' slot in the middle and add maybe 3 raised sections with gap in between just wide enough to clip the wire connect into. I can check the measurement for this if it helps.
Otherwise its great and pleased you have taken this project on. Great work.

Looks good and I agree with the tabs on the front as I find them useful:

Hi Shaun I know what you mean as have a complete strap here The trouble is I am using the bottom face as my datum that will be the glass plate and to add lugs make it a very complex print It would be better to have a slot in the main strap and then print as a separate Clip part that you then press into the main part if you see what I mean? clip by Alan Kelly, on Flickr Best regards Al

Think what I will do is first print the original once the current seat tang order is done, and then if it prints successfully, I can then modify the design as a two part assembly to include the clips as printing the strap will be be the challenge :-)
Catch up with you all soon.
Best wishes Al.

Hey mate. I'm sure you'll nail it. I dont need any pieces your printing, but I tell you this. ' Your efforts are being watched and very much appreciated. Well done .

That looks a great idea. They can be easily replaced if they get damaged or broken

I prefer slots could you slot it and then print the extra bit to clip into the slots?

Alan, Yes that looks much better and allows you to clip in the battery cables. My choice would be without the slot as looks closer to the original, but I would happily purchase either off you.
Great work! Shaun.

Hi Al You are a clever fella indeed. Those look fantastic. I agree with shaunthe2nd that the version without the slots looks better but I would be more than happy with either. They look top draw buddy. Put my name down for one of whatever design you go for. John

Hi all Well first prototype is underway It’s only a “draft quality” print just to knock out a quick print to check that the shape is correct but still will take 8 hours to print☹️ Also got some new material on order that is ABS type of material but is UV resistant and very thermal stable that people are already using for automotive parts (and is in black) and once I have mastered this new material, the design fits and I am happy with the quality I can then start taking some orders Think cost for the complete strap will be around the £20 plus post as it’s a big complex print in two parts that seems reasonable and should be able to offer it either with or without the slots etc Fingers crossed the printer runs ok tonight so I can see what the part looks like for real Catch up soon all Best wishes Al

Alan, you are a genius ! They look awesome. I'm gonna have to get another Lc just so I can get all these fantastic 3d printed parts !! Well done mate, great effort Dusty

Hi Dusty Don't worry I think the Tigcraft project may have more than a few printed parts such as battery box, chain slide pads and other one of bits and bobs Even the old CB400f has a couple of printed parts such as the speedo drive and the horn cover😎😎 Best wishes Al.

Hi all Late night in the print shop as a bit busy😁😁 But got the first battery strap main part draft print done😁😁 Also as a bonus the strap actually fits😁😁 Pretty please with the first prototype but going to do a couple of changes to the design First going to increase the overall size of the hinge part where the metal shaft fits to ensure we have plenty of wall thickness/ strength here in this critical area of the print Second going to move down the two top “pads” so they are on the battery case rather than on the top edge so the battery is clamped better without bending the strap (I think with the old lead acid battery they were more of a smooth cube shape but the JMT battery has a “ledge” for the battery top but moving the pad down will allow the strap to fit both shapes) Also going to look at some wall thickness changes to see if we can “lighten” up the design but without sacrificing strength Lastly tomorrow going to print the clip detail and fit this to create a complete strap😁 Then it just a case of waiting for my new material to arrive (The prototype you see above is in PLA is it is cheap and easy to print but the production part will be made in an ABS type material called ASA) so I can do some testing to get my print properties correct for this new material before committing to the first production part As always any comments welcome Best wishes Al

Superb work! Are these a honeycomb still or solid? I ask as Ive found honeycomb 3D printed parts go brittle, delaminate and break in the hot temps we have here

Hi Jon
Plan is to print as 100% infill
But if the parts you have seen are in PLA then they do go brittle as the material is not UV stable and also is not stable when subjected to heat such as out in the sun
Planning to use a material called ASA that is both UV stable and has good thermal properties and is already being used for auto parts
Catch up soon
Best wishes Al

Cool! Thats great news Al.
Here we have temps up to the mid-to-high 40s (DegC) and of course in a tin roof garage it would be 55+. None of my 3D printed parts were left in the sun, just the heat. They basically disintegrated which was a huge disappointment of course. I found the parts that were under any kind of strain were the worst, hence my question as this flap/strap could be potentially depending on the battery fitted etc.
Anyway, good stuff. Loving your work mate. Defo great to have these available for our community!

No clock cases are already available But if you need the idiot light holder for a project that’s not a problem😁😁 Also project in process is the replacement kidney clock case ignition surround so you can replace the missing or broken part of these cases Looks like I will be busy Catch up soon Best wishes Al
