Just curious as to people's reasons for putting PV engines in LC frame. I get that it is easy way to more power but is that the main reason? Or is it because you prefer the LC look? I would like to assume the PV frame handles better as it was built around the engine. Never put a lot of thought into it before just assumed it was more power but with better reliability than an LC with a tune and was done mainly by people who already had lc's hunting for power, but have read several posts recently where people have bought a frame with the intention of putting a valve in it and got me wandering if there was a common reason?

Curiosity then realised I prefer the original Original as in LC engine? Or as in ypvs frame?

As much as veg hates to say it the facts are
They got the look spot on with the lc but it had the 2 stroke equivalent of turbo lag and the powervalve engine Solved that π

As much as veg hates to say it the 4l0 is one of if not the best looking bike of the 1980βs the motor is a classic two stroke with power band the Ypvs is like a sewing machine or 4 stroke yes itβs allegedly more powerful but it has all the character of a washing machine. Having owned numerous lcβs a pv engined Lc and a 31k I can honestly say my present Lc is the most enjoyable and it doesnβt have a pv motor.

I have to admit the LC is my favourite look, although I do have a soft spot for the f2.
But I do think ypvs bikes suit mods ( as in running gear and/or bodywork) more than an LC from a visual perspective but I know that's personal opinion.

A young lad with a 4LO seized his bike. I put a YPVS motor in it with the valves pinned open. He still prefers his old tuned 4LO engine more.
The power valve motor is no slouch with 70PK.

I have heard similar before when people compare the 2 engines, but similarly i've heard people prefer the PV. Having never owned or had the opportunity to ride a PV, I couldn't comment. My old boss owned a 1st gen blade, then the 2nd gen when it went to 918cc. He always moaned the 2nd gen was soft and felt like a tourer in comparison. I owned a 2nd gen and thought it was outta this world, but never tried the early one. Do you think people who have had an LC 1st prefer the LC,and those that had PV 1st the same?

They are chalk and cheese think of a 4l0 as a ripe Camembert or a blue Stilton pungent and sharp with an incomparable bouquet and a melt in the mouth quality that then punches you in the mouth and leaves you wanting more of the same, think of a pv as a sweaty sandal covered in talc memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Original thought was sort LC, rebuild PV lump try in LC, keep which ever I prefer and sell the other.but part of me thinks make minor mods to LC, rebuild PV lump and get PV frame to hybrid. Really I should only b thinking ' get LC sorted '. Worry about your next project after that!!!! No wander I never finish anything.π

I've only driven a couple of YPVS's and have treated them well as they were not mine. They do have better mid range.
I really like the look of the 4LO engine.

So it was a bit higher. Shame i f**ked it up for him by changing the air filters and not checking the jetting.

I read about that recently. 65 from an LC is good going......won't ask about reliability.π

I think I'm the only one who thinks it would be a good move to slot my 250lc engine into the wifes cb250f..... The Honda is a great little bike, sweet handling, comfortable as fook, I can reach the ground, lightweight, but just gutless.

I was well chuffed with the reliability. Kees and i put 11000 miles on it, that included track days, a bit of sprinting and some flat tracking. The engine was horrible to ride on a flat track with my low level skills. It just wanted to throw me off. A standard 250 engine was more friendlier.
I will post some pictures when i strip the engine.

Back when I was a young idiot, I always thought a 900 blade motor in a c90 was a good idea. Now I'm an old idiot, I think I'm an idiot for not doing it.

LC motor?
Nah, just tune the 4rse off a ypvs
Some would say the ypvs engine is too smooth and refined
A well sorted ypvs will still have a 7k surge that throws out an extra 30 horses
Only difference is it's already doing 45 rwhp at 7k π

I would describe the difference between the actual bikes.. thus.. The LC is the type who is guaranteed to give you a knee trembler behind the bike sheds for as little as a drag off your Woodbine... but not the one to take home to meet the parents as very little table manners and liable to fart and pick their nose even in the Vicars company. Whereas the YPVS... Well a much more refined and I daresay, glamorous type. With table manners to behold, so a lot less stressful on ones nerves. Even smells different with a hint of the scent Tweed (whereas LC just smells of fish and chips, Brut after the recent occupant and something else which I wont mention.. that was acquired round the back of the bike sheds)...So yes, YPVS is evolution for some, but the big question is............................... Who would you rather be with round the back of the bike shed?? Getting a knee trembler or discussing John Majors policies??? The choice is all yours.

I once wondered if you could power the valve with your thumb by linking it with like s choke lever. That way could leave it open for an LC like surge @ 7k, or adjust it for midrange when you wanted it. Then I thought ' stop thinking like an idiot, you idiot'.
