I pay £120 for a frame alone but if I throw the silver swinger and all the black parts in it comes to about £200

Last frame I had done about a year or so ago was £80 so depends who you use and how often you use them.

I had a quote at £180 for a frame, but that was a 3 stage powder coat system, so should be cheaper if you find somewhere that used a single stage system. This place I got the quote from came highly recommended, so just got 2 pairs of headlight brackets and an LC front mudguard bracket in to see what they come out like. Was quoted £35 for these bits. Will be collecting later this week.

The powdercoaters maybe, Im certainly not being paid enough lol.
I do think that heat/light/rent/wages are a factor, and we are in an expensive city and i guess there are some EPA considerations etc. But it is mental what they think is ok. I wouldnt mind if these guys were focused on car/bike work but many of these guys are commercial coaters who do fence posts and the like, they moan about old bike frames being dirty and rusty and that we are picky guys who want the world and moan a lot. Its much easier for them to do yet another tonne of pool fences as they get less money but no complaints etc. Maybe thats why they price everything up for us, either way it sucks.
I should add that painters are the same. My local guy (who is arguably (one of?) the best in Sydney) reckons that a F1/F2/500 would be about $4500-5000 to do a few repairs and paint with your supplied decals. Thats £2250-2500... and Ive been talking to him for 10years now and the price is never going down, all hes ever done is up his quotes.

Where I live to sand blast a frame is about $300 AUD
Industrial powder the frame is about $200, very dull and lumpy, flakes off after a year
For really good powder with clear on top is about $1500, the difference in the finish is chalk and cheese
To paint a frame in 2 pack by a good painter is $1000
Like Jon says, most coaters are industrial only interested in fencing or, well, industrial parts where the finish is not critical as it’s not for a show and shine, so they don’t give a toss about our frames
