I was hoping to have had the R1-Z on the road but the Coronavirus has slowed things, but given the grief inflicted on so many folks.... So I,m close but not quite time for the cigar. I have put on smaller led indicators with inline resistors however each side lights up but remain constant / no flash, I did try another set of resistors from another bike that work so I have ruled out them. Given that they worked before with bulb type indicators I assume there is something amiss with relay unit, but what and how to amend is where I tap out. Looking under the seat there is a sealed unit with 4 x wires going to a plug and 1 x brown separate wire could this be the relay I can,t find much else. I could of course buy a set of bulb type indicators as before.....I,m not putting on the originals as they are carbon fibre look-alikes and not for me. Any advise would be most welcome

u need to use a led flasher relay,u dont need resisters at each indicator(these get hot),but u will need inline diodes going to the idiot light for it all to work, just done my ypvs, and google is your friend,if u have 2 idiot light indicator,i believe u can use led bulbs in the dash,if u have 1 idiot light for indicators u need 2 diodes(well, i did for a ypvs)

Yep, as Stasky said the LED indicators don't draw enough current to make the standard relay work so you need a 2 pin electronic one to make it work. Also on the standard setup the single idiot light is connected across the left and right lives to the indicators and earths itself through the opposite side so that won't work either. You will need a couple of diodes in series from each indicator live and a dedicated earth from the idiot light.

Yeah, that sounds like it. What colour are the other wires going to the unit?

Under the seat the sealed unit has 5 x wires, 4 x going to a plug (1 x black, 1 x dark blue, 1 x light blue and 1 x blue and white) and 1 x brown separate wire could this be the relay.

No value, should just be a 2 pin flasher relay for LED indicators

Good news. I wired in the diode kit..... link above.... which was really easy, the kit came with clear instructions and a diagram. The 3 pin relay arrived today, installed and hey presto we have indicators that work. One good thing apart from the working indicators was by chasing through for the issues I have a much better understanding of the electrics as a whole and where relays etc live. Now hopefully an MOT next week and some photos on the forum. Then it will be time to refit the F2 fairing and get her to MOT. Thanks for the great advice its appreciated Bry

Glad the fix worked, on my list of 'to do' as well, are you fitting the F2 fairings to an R1-Z, or did I misread that??
