Could be kind and say great basis to make your own one of frame? Or could say dodgy as f**k will mean someone can ring a bike.

With you Alex I’d be tempted to buy it just to take it out of circulation.

Problem is, there is nothing illegal about it "YET" quite legal to sell the part, its what someone does with it that's the issue.

I won a 350r engine on eBay a few years back It turned up with the matching numbers headstock and log book Didn’t sit easy with me having it in the cave with my straight bikes So I cut the numbers up,scrapped it and sent the log book back to dvla

I agree just the headstock (or the one mentioned above) is only really useful for one thing.
However I have a similar story. I bought to be what turned out a low mileage 31k engine some years ago. I asked if the numbers were untampered and that it wasn’t stolen, and to my surprise the guy said I could have the Austrian logbook with it showing the numbers. When I asked how he got that, he said he’d bought a whole matching numbers bike, but someone had cut the very back off the frame to make a single length seat. I asked what he had done with it and he said he’d scrapped it!
So many hybrid builder these days with different rear subframe would have loved that. I would have thought an easy enough repair to put back to standard looking at the photos.

Wish I had made a note now but the other day noticed an ad for can’t for the life of me remember what , but, was an engine with questionable numbers that the seller claimed would be ok as you could easily change them! Will look at viewing history, if I can find it will put up an item number if it’s not ended, doubt I can manage a link.

We should keep a register of dodgy numbers. If you end up buying a bike with Chassis number 31K-072873 then its a problem.

No good will come from that 😡 I agree, apart from the legal aspect, would you feel safe riding a bike that's had it's whole front end/frame welded around that one area? Yes I'm sure that it could be done safely by some but how do you know how good of a welder that bike builder maybe??

Only use for that is for a one off frame build but even at that you would ideally want one with a v5 so stop any inspection issues with DVLA
Think the only way to use that on another ypvs frame would be to cut the number section out the headstock and graft it into a frame
Why you would do that is questionable. Maybe if you had a dvla stamped frame or a good frame which has had the vin marked with DVLA as never to go back on the road
