Hi everyone
I’m thinking of selling my beloved 250LC as I really like the new Ninja 1000sx
The bike itself I’ve owned from new which I bough back in 1984 whilst living in jersey.
When I moved back to the uk in 90s I thought I was being smart by changing the frame to get a uk log book and avoid vat and duty doh
The bike has only done a genuine 13k and the engine was complexly rebuilt by mechanic 2 years ago and have a receipt for the work.
The bike has recently had its panels, tank etc respirated as it was red back to black with the mars bar scheme which is what it would have been the frame. The bike has microns and I still have the orginal exhausts along with other bits and well used Haynes manual
The bike isn’t perfect condition if needs right foot rest and a couple of other minor cosmetic bits sorting out and i wondered what price I should ask / expect for it.
I appreciate it’s not matching numbers which will affect the end price

Its not really about what its worth, its what will someone pay, to me none are worth the asking prices, only way to find out is ebay, start it at your lowest acceptable amount, and see what happens, you can always pull the add if you change your mind or decide you want more.
A pic would help people here give you a ballpark figure of where to start if you have no idea, remember people on here won't want to pay full whack for it, they expect mates rates on here, so bear that in mind, its your bike and up to you what you want, regardless of what someone tells you its "worth"
Supply and demand, not many listed ATM either, and with lock down I would say a good time to sell.

Hang on you've had it for 36 years and you want to sell it? Don't do it! You'll regret it and just want another one...

I would question as well the timing, the economy is in free fall huge amounts of people have been furloughed, people are mindful of spending money. There may not be that many about but I would be surprised if it’s a sellers market.

There may not be that many about but I would be surprised if it’s a sellers market. My theory being, there are lots of people looking for somewhere safe to put their money, and rightly or wrongly RDs are being seen as "safe" investments by lots of people, there are no longer any cheaper ones being imported ATM, so I would say now is the time if you do want to sell, not many listed like there was a short while ago.

It’s all about the condition, last year a mate put me on to a xl500 for 1300. I asked him every time I saw him for more details ( mate knows less than nothing about bikes ) , but it took a viewing to know what to expect. Was a bit of an awkward moment really as it wasn’t standard paint and looked like it had been done with a brush, I didn’t want it enough like that. Not saying yours is a less than good one but the highest and lowest possible values are over thousands not hundreds. It might be worth only 3000 (unlikely) it could be 6000 plus.

250s not far behind, plus there isn’t really a book for these so higher than estimated theoretical book, is possible. Not everyone is bothered about the 350. Condition is the decider

Even as a bike to own if you focus on the riding side, a 250 can be enough. I wanted a 350 or at least a tuned 250 as I don’t ride solo. If I did a 250 would be fine, even a standard 250 is plenty quick enough for modern traffic and increasingly crap drivers. A lot of lcs are being cruised, have overtaken loads of lcs round the lanes, while on a 250 Honda 4stroke single, without effort. Me being 2 up and them not. Possibly they were all 350s, if a 250 has to have its throttle wider to compete, it’s surely more satisfying. And a 250lc is not a weedy 4stroke single.

I don’t really ride it anymore and have only done probably 3k miles in the past 25 years.
If I’m going out for a ride with some mates I take my thunder cat and the Elsie stays at the back of the garage hence my toying with the idea of selling

I think most of us would be the opposite. More likely to ignore the Fireblade, Thundercat, etc and plump for a ride on the LC. It sounds as if you don’t really love the bike and the 36 year relationship is not because you can’t bear to see it go, it’s just because you haven’t really got round to selling it yet. Might as well get the cash and let someone else give it some love. Sorry, no idea what it would fetch but you will always have a buyer...... at the right price.

Yes your probably right re falling out of love with the bike and nowadays prefer to cruise around on the cat than the Elsie. The bike was laid up for almost 20 years hence the full rebuild to replace on the seals and gaskets etc

350 not 250 One thing about the 250 is rarity as everyone seems to update theirs into a 350. My first Lc was a 250 and they have a special place in my heart but I ain’t 8 stone anymore and I’m used to more modern performance. Nice looking bike glwts 👍

For what it’s worth I would add the receipts showing what engine work was done peace of mind for a potential buyer, I’d also mention you no longer have the original frame (unless you do?) as I guarantee you’ll get plenty of questions about it. Photos proving the std pipes are with it and condition can’t hurt though tbh I’d probably have sold the microns separately. Also if you still have the original handbook, logbook, tool kit etc all can be used to enhance the sale or be sold separately.

Yep I think £4500 was about right
I was offered £4000 by a dealer for PX bearing in mind it’s not a nut bolt restoration and isn’t cosmetically perfect

I hope that the new owner is a true fanatic of the bike and uses it/gets enjoyment from it.
I know that more than 30+ years have passed but none of us would have thought about these bikes selling for such sums of money back then hey.
I'm not up on the new small cc bike market but if you really wanted a 250, what could 4.5k get you? I always compare say a second hand R6 when it comes to performance and handling but if one really wanted a 250cc machine, does anything come close??
