There's also Bloke on ebay selling special Machined Bushes for £30? Anyone tried one yet!?!? Sean G He’s on the forum now. I asked him to join as I need a couple, and figured it would make him more money than being raped by eBay. Think he is out of material at the moment.

Is the wear in this collar the main cause of excessive movement on the shaft or is it likely to be anything else ?

The Lc doesn't have a steel bush fitted as standard like the Pv does. So the steel shaft on the gear change wears the ally housing it passes through, making it bigger and more likely to leak. You would notice more movement on the shaft too.

Thanks Dusty - what is considered the best fix?

It depends what state you engine is in. If it's out of the bike, ready for a bottom end strip, I would buy the steel bush insert from Norbo and get that fitted - always done it on Lc builds at the very start. I have the engineering guy close by so it's an easy, and cheap fix for me to get him to do it. I did buy a reemer once but didn't trust myself to do it accurately - if you mess it up you end up with a bigger problem, so in a lot of respects, the £30 bush could be a better bet - definitely if your bike is up and running and doesn't need stripping. I bought one for my 400e as the case doesn't have a steel bush. I haven't fitted it yet as the 400 has a circlip and groove which needs re positioning on the side where the external bush would go. A job that would get done only if the original proves leaky. Dusty

As Dusty says if the engine is out...
Mutts does the bush mod for £25
£10 post each way so £45 and it's as good as new and you happen to put another 30k miles on it (🤣) Its replaceable again
As for the £30 bush/seal repair if it sorts the leak and stops you having to buy or repair a shaft then that's fine
Giving the conversation on another thread about the genny connector "not being original" I reckon some would turn their nose up
It gets around the problem, not fixes it
Good thinking though 👍

Hi guys I'm the guy who makes the bushes to fix the leaks. It started on my boys bike and thought it be nice to help get rid of some of those damp batches. Any questions please ask. I can also bush casing if your engine is stripped. I have a small engineering workshop on canvey.

Hi Welcome to the forum. I bought one - it's a great idea, and a perfect easy fix, especially on an engine that doesn't need stripping. Thanks for taking the time to produce them Dusty
