Hi everyone, I've just started the rebuild of my YPVS engine and I've fitted the selector drum (with new bearing),Selector forks, circlips and retaining plate. When finished the selector drum is very, very hard to turn or should it turn quite easily?Am I missing something here or am I being a bit thick in that it's how it should be. Any help gratefully received. Cheers Ian

Have you got it all installed in the engine, with the gear selector star and selector pawl spring attached? If so, yes it's quite strong and turns with a snap if that makes sense?

Also assuming you have all the gears installed try turning the sprocket shaft while selecting a gear
Best to fit the gear lever arm to the shaft and get a shifter on it as take a bit of force to change gears

Hi guy’s thanks for your reply’s. Wasn’t happy with how I’d started the rebuild so took everything back out and checked it all. Anyway started again and all was ok, nice and free until fitting the half moon retaining plate on the selector drum which when tightened up made the drum very difficult to rotate. Do you think that’s right? Ian

Thanks for your reply. I'll check to see if the selector drum is seated properly.
