Hi I need to make a new loom from the generator as it all been hacked about and joined in various places,is there anything special about the three white wires from the windings? Can I use normal auto electric cable and any idea on ratings please? ( I know its an air cooled 250 but thought the question would be across the board) Cheers

I have seen that some bikes use a different type of insulation (silicon I think) and the soldered connection is done using high temperature melting point solder. You may need a variable temperature soldering iron and specific solder if you want to do this.

I used silicone wire when I done mine, much more flexible when trying to thread it through the stator plate, but just regular solder with gas soldering iron on lower setting.

The silicone wiring is usually to cope with the heat at the engine end

Thanks guys for your help , to be honest once I stripped the thing down I think anything will be better than what's there ! The 45 year old wiring is very brittle, I've ordered some wire that should do the job
