So my 250 with 370 Fahron conversion is done. Refurbished crank from Norfolk, oil pump done by Arrow, Mutts mid range pipes, Zeltronic black boxes and set up by RSK 2 strokes. It runs great, I am really enjoying it and have put about 1k miles on it since the rebuild. The question is, what sort of engine maintenance is required In the future? For example, how often to change the gearbox oil? When does the oil pump need adjusting? When do I need to replace piston rings / pistons? I use fully synthetic 2 stroke oil, use it sparingly for ride outs on sunny days.

Looks a nice ride out. Was the crank done at BDK?

The crank was from Norbo, not Norfolk. Bloody auto correct!

Good questions, going by the info in the Haynes manual for standard 250/350's, gearbox oil is suppose to be replaced every 3 months for example.

Hi Freddy, Nice pic of your Lc in the sunshine. What I do for pistons, rings, bores is just to take regular compression readings, and keep a log of them. If there are any dramatic sudden changes, you will know something is up. When I first built it, I was taking compressin readings "every 300 yards" :-) I have also poked my cheap ebay endoscope into the engine. In saying that I dont do a huge amount of miles, and its looking like we wont get too many miles on our LC,s this year either. :-( Steven.

I think regular oil changes is important as there is no oil filter used for the clutch particles etc .

With the amount of miles these bikes do now, every 12 months would be fine.thats what I do with mine anyway don't forget the oils we use now are far superior to the stuff from the eighties

The minimum stroke on the oil pump should be checked every 2000 miles. Although it won't have altered hardly at all in that time.

I would also say once a year is fine for an oil change but I would drop the gear box oil now, like a new bike the oil is changed at 600 miles to flush out the engine from a rebuild Kevin.
