I'm having an extreemlty hard time removing the fuel cap from my recently purchased project 81LC. I can't unlock the fuel cap with the key (it may have come with the wrong one) and have had a very good locksmith trying to open it. He can't open in by picking and is now trying to impression a key. We noticed that cap is stuck in a position that it shouldn't be, in that the arrow is facing about 4 o'clock when it should be at 12 when locked. Is it possible that someone reefed on it so hard they twisted past the "locked" position to keep it in place, perhaps because they could't use the key either? If so what damage is likely to happen if we try and force it counter clockwise back to 12 or even past that to get if off? drive.google.com/file/d/1dKPP9Az86NUjO254nQbmydEObyBhPITo/view?usp=sharing

Looks like it has been twisted right round and the cap pegs have jammed in the neck of the filler. It may need brute force to twist it back to its proper position and then you may find the key works for the cap. The damage may have been done already so worth a try twisting it back?

Dont forget that you can fit the cap in two positions 180 degrees opposite to each other . Its possible that the cap has been inserted in the " wrong " position and then locked 180 degrees away from where you expect it to be . I just tried it with mine .

Thanks for this - its still at the locksmith and hoping he can get it picked. I appreciate you trying it in both positions for me.
