Just checking clutch and found that one of the friction plates is warped! All the other friction and metal plates looked ok.
Never seen a warped friction plate before, only metal ones.
Anyway, I am looking at getting one of the EBC DRC043 Banshee clutch kits. Any feedback on these or other recommendations?

Hi Rob, these are the clutches I stock and supply, excellent kits and are the correct size as per Yamaha, they are the only ones that are, all of the other aftermarket plates are either too thick or too thin
I stock them if you want one

Do the heavy duty springs Make a heavy lever dave ? I got what I thought were standard springs from norbo only to find they were heavier and made the lever virtually unusable so I took them out and refitted the original’s for now but I’m still getting clutch slip when I change up with the clutch ( under heavy throttle only I must add ) what would you suggest is wrong dave and what can I do about it ? Cheers dave hope you’re well and staying safe 👍

Fit a mixture of 3 original and 3 heavy duty springs to the clutch

Hi I also tried that before I refitted the clutch cover was still pretty heavy ☹️Think there’s something else going on when I rebuilt the motor I used the same clutch stack as it measured exactly the right sizes built up and no twisted or bent plates ?

Maybe you can list all the new parts and original or not that you used in the clutch when you overhauled the engine.

The springs in the EBC kit are 15% heavier, so it makes the lever "slightly" heavier to pull, but not like the TZ or whatever those springs everybody seems to fit, which are way too heavy if you ask me. I've put these new clutch kits in 70bhp engines and they haven't let go, so I am pretty happy with them
One of the things you have to check when swapping the springs is that you aren't getting coil bound, if the spring diameter is bigger than stock and the clearance between the spring is diminished when compressed, then you haven't a chance of getting a nice lever as your trying to compress the springs coils against each other, which won't happen, each coil must have at least some clearance between them to allow compression

I just fitted my new plates and all looks okay.
After double checking the old plates, 2 were perfect, 3 had a very slight warp and 2 had noticeable warping...all the steels were perfect. These were new Powerplate clutch, and have only lasted a few thousand miles. The material has not worn any measurable amount.
