Hi all, looking for some advise.... i had running issues with the bike so i set the float levels checked the correct bowl was on the correct carb and set up the carbs and connected the choke pipe, went on a test ride and the bike was crisp and ran very well so i went to my local petrol station filled up the tank and went on my way, about a mile later all power was lost and the bike just died.
I kicked it over several times and it still would not start, ended up pushing it home whipped out the plugs that were very wet, cleaned them and checked the spark which was very healthy but still wont start.
Thanks in Advance
Neil

you didn't fill it with diesel did you?
how far was the test ride before you filled up, round the block or several miles? sounds like the problem was there before the petrol station visit as you had issues prior, I have heard of the stator windings breaking down and working ok until it gets warmed up then it gives problems and annoyingly tests out ok when it cools down..
welcome into the forum

Hello Neil, you didn't fill with diesel i take? Check the tank, give it a sniff, take a fuel hose off and drain some of the tank into a jug and check for water, sounds daft but if the garage tank was nearly empty you don't know what's lying in the bottom, as you say it was fine before you filled her up? Hi martig,
was riding for a good few miles and put petrol in the bike, the day previous i checked the timing with my strobe and all was well and i had one carb which was way out re float level i also checked the reed petals and they looked good, last night there was still a healthy spark but still a non starter.

ok, if both plugs are soaked then it's probably something common to both cylinders unless both carbs are equally set up wrong, there are a few threads about how to do carbs and test ignitions on the help pages.. what else would you be doing today..?

Could be crap fuel but, one of my 350s was constantly jumping from one of the other clyinder everytime i started it and oiling up one plug and not running well even after setting up the carbs and ultrasonic, ing them several times and eventually bought rebuild kits from cruisin image in japan off the bay and its sweet as a nut now . Change the plugs first and then try again. Check the choke connector pipe is fitted and nice and well fitted. I think I'd then try a secondary fuel tank with petrol from a different source. And also check yr crank cases aren't full of fuel if yr float was well out.

Will it start now? I ask that as it could be the stator. Sometimes when they fail they wont restart when hot, but when cold will be fine for a while until they heat up again.

Regarding a fuel mix up, I've always wondered if it's possible for the tanker driver to accidentally fill the wrong tanks up under the forecourt of a petrol station? I always double check which pump nozzle I'm picking up but if the wrong fuel comes out of it...

Tanks have been mis fueled plenty of time's, local one to me had loads of cars konked out just after leaving the station, turns out diesel had been put into the petrol tanks. Lots of claims for getting them going again. When i was in the trade we had lots of diesel pumps fail after running on petrol, very expensive item to replace.
