Guys, I posted on the 500 forum but no response so maybe somebody here can offer some input. During my time of accumulating bits for my RZ500 build I got a pair of R6 (5EB) yokes fitted with the 500 stem, it seems a while back the R6 fork were a popular upgrade. So the issue is the ign switch from the 500 will not fit the R6 top yoke. My questions/thoughts are; can the R6 switch be re-wired to use on the 500, I know i'll lose the lock function but hey ho! or is there another option, one thing I wondered, the R6 forks are 43mm and the FZR1000 are also 43mm, I wonder if they are interchangeable, i.e use FZR top yoke with R6 bottom yoke (I think the RZ switch will fit the yoke). Maybe somebody one here has looked at these options for either their 350 OR 500? I was struggling with which way to go with my 500 but as the bike came with fresh KR paint job and now i've found the std forks have knackered stanchions and seized bolts on the discs on the front wheel it seems I may as well go down the "modded" route as I have the yokes and a YZF modified swinging arm Any thoughts appreciated. Phil

I fitted 2008 R6 USD front forks and swingarm, I made spacers to fit the ignition flush with the top of the top yoke, The stock RD500 ignition would stick up roughly 15mm without the spacers, Then I had to grind back the ignition itself where the lock pin pops out to lock the steering and then I ground away at the frame till it all worked, Didnt take too much to do, Just fiddly..

Looking good so far! Sounds a lot like fitting the LC/RZ ignition in the RGV top triple. Spacers and a bit of messing about as the ign body doesnt match the bolt spacing and / or is too shallow so the ign sticks up. Lil bit of fettling should see you move forwards Phil.

Thats interesting, I'll go back and look at the yoke again with a view to fitting the original switch, I just looked at the pic of the later top yoke and the switch position is in the same place so hopefully will be good. One question, I assume you ended up re-locating the oil tank? I read that using the USD forks doesn't leave enough room. Although I love the look of the USD forks I don't want to go that modern. Phil

Nope, I left the tanks where they are, I stretched out the mounting points roughly 5/10mm and no probs, I think its only the R1 forks that has that problem, Mine didn't rub even before I stretched them out, I did it just to be safe, Lots of room for the R6 forks,,
