So its been a while since posting anything, just been mega busy as usual, but this evening I decided to progress the 421LC project a bit further. My original target was to build an engine that would do mid to late 60's bhp and approx 40ftlbs of torque, after a lot of testing and tweaking and a few top end strip downs and adjustments being made, I think I am about there. One side affect I wasn't expecting is how the engine will perform 2 tasks pretty well, with the right pipes on it becomes a rev monster and pushes over 71bhp, but with the correct designed pipes for it on, it is pushing 65+bhp, but with huge mid range. One graph shows how it compares to a stock LC doing 40bhp, and the other graph shows how just swapping the pipes transforms the engines characteristics, which is an unexpected bonus, although I doubt the crank would have a long life being revved that hard all the time ! To help refresh peoples memories, I started building a 4mm stroked, 68mm bore one off LC engine a few years ago, so this is a stock looking motor in its entirety, it uses a custom crank that fits straight into the crankcases without machining and has relined barrels that have been taken out to 68mm I still have work to do on it, but having pretty much hit my target, I am pretty happy with it, so I'll probably put the bike together and get some miles under its belt to see how reliable etc it will be I know the gearbox is going to need some attention soon, so doing some miles on it before stripping it down is probably a good idea anyway No doubt I'll play with it a bit more and hopefully squeeze some more out of it once its got a few miles under its belt Watch this spsace......

Nice work indeed Dave! Is this just for your own bike or are you going to be making these?

Nice work indeed Dave! Is this just for your own bike or are you going to be making these? Alex Hi Alex, originally I was going to build 10 kits, but since I started on this project all those years ago, somethings have changed, so I'd have to see if I can still source the parts to build the cranks and get the cylinder liners, and of course at how much as cost will be a big factor, my original aim was to produce a kit that was similar in price to building a 421 Athena style engine on a YPVS

Good luck with it all. You'd sell 10 almost immediately I would think!

Yes! If you can do this for the cost of an Athena setup then it would sell very well. Ive 2 sets of 250 cyls that currently do duty only as paperweights....

That is pretty impressive, fun to ride I'm sure too, hopefully you'll get to test it soon, let us know how it rides.

Yes, been waiting for your results to be published, cracking result and very interested in how it goes from here. If you do find you can source the parts to market the kit, there will be buyers.!

thanks guys, I'll get the rest of the bike put back together and take some pictures of it, so you can see how much of a sleeper it is ! I've just been discussing this morning with the lads who make my exhausts about developing some differtent exhausts based upon my initial results as I think we can get more mid range out of it, without losing the top end power, I've done some quick modelling this morning and it might be possible, whether the lads can actually make the exhaust of course is another matter as its a bit quirky On another note, we was discussing about using this quiet period ( ) to dig out the YPVS mid range exhaiust work and try and get that finished, but time will tell I'll be letting a few people ride the bike once I've got it back on the rode so I can get some decent feedback as well, then its less biased !
