My LC is an early JDM model. 4U0-005761 to be exact. To my understanding, among other differences, the early LC's had no tie-bars under the engine. Clearly, tho, the frame has the tie-bar tabs, and the bottom engine case has the corresponding bosses. What's odd is, no tie-bars were present when I got the bike, and it's pretty obvious no tie bars have ever been installed. Paint is unscarred at the frame tabs, and the engine boss faces untouched and threads virginal. It does appear one of the cyls was replaced at some point as one had the small style exhaust gasket and one the large style, but both were on standard bore. Engine internals were spotless and I appear to be the first one in. Judging by the amount of grime it doesn't appear the engine has ever been out of the frame before me. What's up with that?

That's odd, I'll be corrected by someone with more knowledge, but I thought none tie bar models had no brackets for the tie bars, just a plain bar/frame rail, and the crank cases had no threads for a bolt as it was a later modification to prevent exhausts cracking.

Usually the frame mounts and the engine drillings are missing if it's an early 80/81 model? Someones done 'something' as you have mismatched barrels. It's coming up to 40 years old, do you know any of it's history?
It does look very clean engine wise, but are they stainless nuts on the casing studs? Hard to see from the pics. In your position I'd just buy a set of tie bars and get them fitted.
What exhausts are fitted, as they were replaced in the re-call to the thicker flange type, I have an early one thats missed the recall and has the original parts still fitted.

What exhausts are fitted, as they were replaced in the re-call to the thicker flange type, I have an early one thats missed the recall and has the original parts still fitted. History is vague, as I bought it without papers. The fella I bought it from had it sat unused in his carport for 10 years. When asked it's history he said the fella he bought it from "was a serviceman stationed in Japan and smuggled it into the country with the rest of his belongings when he returned to the states". He also mumbled something about it being a "special edition" or "promotional" bike or something as it has KR style black/yellow speedblock livery. Like I said, vague. If I had to guess, I'd say I got it in roughly the same condition as when it arrived from Japan decades ago, as it appears to have never been registered for road use here in the states. Yes, engine is in process of rebuild by me. Cases are vapor blasted and yes, I replaced the case nuts with stainless. After digging deeper into Xavier's site, I've found a few more oddities making it seem a bit of a parts bin special: Early 4L0-00 carbs Early cyls with the notch at the top of the exhaust port and no " l " marking. (Different exhaust gasket areas to each other, tho) Later "drain bolt" forks etc. So BOTT, you have an early one with no tie-bars or fixings for them? What's the VIN if you don't mind sharing?
