I went out for popcorn, there's none left, anywhere, must be down to you and your imminent mega build! Joking aside, looking forward to this one very much, can you crack on with it so I can bask in your greatness and not have to do my own stuff in the garage over winter please?

Lol Well it's here and looks all complete. Even turns over First things first, get a dating letter from Suzuki then do the DVLA dick dance to get it registered BEFORE taking it apart Checked the VIN which confirms it's a 73 L model Steve

Cool, I'd like to see that before it gets stripped, are you considering a move to civilisation anytime soon?

That is a nice donor bike Steve. Looks a relatively straightforward tidy up to MOT standard then register it. Rob the numbers and punt what is left over and let the build commence

I was amazed how easy it was, that said, it is a registered UK bike. Seems you don't need insurance either unless you live in Northern Ireland.

Looks a good donor bike Steve They do look a heavy bike - everything made out of metal rather than weight saving plastic ! Very much "of their time", but I really like them none the less Regards the Tax exempt thing - I thought I had read that the bike needs to be as it left the factory to qualify for tax exemption ? I plan on Mot'ing mine anyway, just to keep insurers happy, but didn't think I could get Tax exemption on the grounds it was modified ? Be nice if I'm wrong !! Other question is regards your new tank. Do you get the extra, raised part that welds on at the front part of the tank ? Or is it an age/model addition ? Good luck with the build - all systems go now Dusty

Other question is regards your new tank. Do you get the extra, raised part that welds on at the front part of the tank ? Or is it an age/model addition ? Good luck with the build - all systems go now Dusty The historic registration is a bit "grey" They are allowed modifications that would have been done in the first 10 years or modifications due to original parts not being available Also upgrades allowed for safety improvements Mine will be mot'd too when being used. The biggest thing is to get it registered as historic at first registration so I don't have to get it all road legal and perfect just to tear it to bits. It's also the rational behind my original build plan. RWU forks as that was what it had and to allow different calipers (safety and originals no longer available) Spoked wheels using the original hubs with 17 inch rims to allow better tyres (safety) Bigger front brake discs (safety) And technically as it is a 73 bike modified as a 74 xr11 it is what would have been done within 10 years. As for the tank there are a few versions with and without the extra bit at the front Maybe someone can enlighten me as to what it was for I will need a tank vent so will need at least a boss welded on Steve

Could be something like that Mark. The pics I have of Tr750's with that addition show 2 caps, 1 with a vent pipe. The PHW website shows a tank with the addition welded on at the front - didn't know if it's something you added to your tank Steve, or whether it depends on model/year of the bike ? Not all Tr reps seem to have them. I forgot I had these 2 pics - builder was a guy in Holland I think; 125614d3bbb6d1d924 by dusty miller, on Flickr 125614d3bbb9edff99 by dusty miller, on Flickr The tanks without the front addition don't seem to have the recessed side discs either, unless that's coincidence ??
