Yesterday i kicked my bike over and it made a hi pitched squeaking noise. Sounded a bit like a spring chick chirping. Once running there was no noise. After i got back the noise could just be heard at tick over. I removed the spark plugs and carbs put the bike in 2nd and pushed one of the reed petals open whilst turning the back wheel. The noise stopped so the reeds were removed and inspected.
I found that coating for the laminate had deteriorated where it touches the cage on all the reeds. The worst areas was on the corners of the petals. I forgot to make a picture for you chaps, sorry.
I cleaned the rough areas up with some fine wet and dry and reversed the petals. The noise has now gone and i will continue to use these until i make my mind up on how to tackle the problem.
I was surprised to see how expensive these reed petals are. They do seem to work slightly better than the V4 version. Not sure if to just shell out or get some reed material and make some single petals.
The next time they're out i will post up a picture.

Contact TDR in the USofA and he can make some better reeds for the VF blocks. They all chip in the VF2 ans 3's because there is no rubber on the blocks so the petals slam hard on the plastic and chip.

After reading your thread i see he sells them. The most expensive place I've seen petals for sale was VHM 87 euros per block. After what you have told me i wont be using original. To be fair they were second hand when i bought them. I was going to use them in my Bakker bike as they were a little better than the V-4's when i tested them in the same engine.

I thought this was going to be one of those ethanol in fuel reacting with the petals answers. Glad you got a satisfactory answer.

I saw a mention of 100 hours life span for Vforce reed petals, so they don't last forever.

all carbon and other performance reeds have a low shelf life you cant just fit them and forget about them there were out and brake. When you reed insructions they say 100 Hours or some times less .

I had a chat with Mr Doukas yesterday and I will probably get a set of reeds from him and some other reed material depending on the price.
I was surprised how many different types of laminates he told me about.

I'd be interested to see what you come up with, I've got some VF3 reeds for my big bore, in good condition so far (bought used) Some reports say they are better, and others worse, so will give them ago when I'm ready and finished the build.

Mr Doukas explained to me that the same reeds will react slightly differently depending on how the engine is tuned. I asked him about the V-4 & V-3 reeds. I forgot to ask about duration.

Thanks , found it now
So a worthy replacement then , not too shabby against the VForce ?
Plus would they last longer too ?

The real TZ 25O petals cost 9 euros a piece. It makes me wonder why the other petals are so expensive.

They need to go on a reed spacer to fit too but the TZR250 reed blocks to fit the LC , don't look great on the sealing/gasket area ?

Yes I think it was Steve (midlife). Yes was me 😁 The mount holes don't line up so you need to file them out Best way to fit is to sandwich them between 2 6mm reed spacers then epoxy round the middle to seal it all up and fill the gap Mine just had a 10mm on one side Steve
