Well, my 31k is stopped while im waiting for my mate to paint the panels, so i'd thought id make a start on the F1 frame i bought, i got loads of parts with the 31k so im going to try and build up another bike, as the frame is a genuine F1 i might as well go that route but its not going to be a faithful nut and bolt build as its going to be a non matching number bike that i will sell once done, so its never going to be worth big money..... Frame back from powder coaters P1020837 Got the arm fitted with a R6 shock, airbox and a few electrical bits fitted P1020890 P1020891 P1020892 Found a set of F2 yokes, not ideal but its whats in the box! Painted up and new head bearings fitted. Had a pair of forks from the rough AF south american PoS i bought link
Stripped the forks, painted the lowers and drilled out a snapped mudguard bolt, rebuilt them today with new top and bottom bushes etc but i need some oil yet, run out P1020894P1020893

Looking at my selection of wheels, (2 rear and 4 front !!!) i picked the best ones, made a start on the rear, usual thing, DA sanded the polished bits, scotbrite, masked up, painted the rest black, unmasked and lacquered the whole wheel. Order a pair of Avon roadriders so hopefully i can get the arse end together end of next week, once ive finished my shifts. P1020899 P1020902 Still got the front wheel to do but i've finished off the forks now so once front is done, i should have a rolling chassis....

On to the front wheel, thought i'd go into a bit more detail regarding painting the wheel incase anyone wants to have a go... My best wheel i had was painted white so out with the industrial paint stripper, now nitromors is only good to put on your cereal, this stuff has still got some bite P1020909
After a couple of goes, then finish off with a brass wheel, its ready for prep. Same as the back wheel, DA sander the edges, then red scotbrite to get a satin look im after P1020910 Next the laborious part, masking up the wheel I use normal masking tape for the centre, spoke edges, just lay it on then use a sharp blade to cut. For the rim, i use lining tape to get a nice sharp edge, then again, just normal tape P1020911Next job is to crack out the rattle cans, i use etch primer, gloss black and gloss etch lacquer, dunno if its original finish but the wheels look nice after so thats what im using P1020912 Primed.. P1020913 Gloss black applied.. P1020914I gave it a few hours to dry in the toasty cabin, then de-mask. Always best to remove masking tape while hot and before the paint get too hard, as it could possibly flake at the edges when removing tape Back outside again for the final couple of coats of lacquer, i use This as its meant to be sprayed over smooth surfaces so it should key ok P1020915 Back in the cabin overnight to cure, disks back on, bolts locktighted / torqued and new tyre valve and its almost done P1020916Got a pair of Avon Roadriders to go on, but i'll leave it a few days for the lacquer to harden fully before i take them down to the local tyre spot, but to be fair, their pretty good, not too ham fisted !! P1020917 After now painting 4 wheels, no more to do, thank god !!

We have a roller !! Picked up a pair of Triumph 4 pots in great condition with good pads, thought i might as well since i would cost as much to refurb the original calipers.... P1020918 P1020919 Fitted the loom, the fuse box had been bodged but the guy supplied a new norbo unit so i can get that wired in and looking good once i get a ignition barrel sorted and suss out which fuses are which.

Keep up the great work Cheers, piecing my wiring together with what i have, ive got a 31k stator and flywheel and a 1UA cdi, reading up on norbo's info page, these will work together (hopefully!) The engine ive got to go in has 1UA barrels, dunno whether that really matters regarding CDI but suppose they match...

Spent a day on the wiring see that i have.... Found a 31k ignition barrel with no key, i have a key for a petrol cap so i took the ignition barrel to bits and swopped around the tumblers so the key works with the barrel, i then extended the wires as the plug is under the tank on the F1. Had a pair of 31k switchgear so stripped them, painted the cases and applied new decals. The F1 loom has had the stator plug cut off and replaced by some weird plug so changed that so it fits a 31k stator i have. Wired up the 1UA cdi, according to Norbo's info page it works with the 31k stator if the red/green wires are swopped over so hopfully that should be ok Finally wired up one of Norbo's fuse box's as the box had been cut off the loom and replaced with loose car blade fuses. Sourced a good headlight. Upto now it all works, flashers, headlight, idiot lights, PV motor etc so fingers crossed..... Also found a throttle cable and a clutch lever, i've got a front brake M/C thats scabby with a bust sight glass, ive got a new glass off ebay for a quid and a M/C rebuild kit so thats my next job once ive finished my shifts again... Got the fairing ready for my mate to paint, top fairing was a bit of a mess but only cracks so all plastic welded up One indicator hole was broken P1020952 And welded up using a spare bit of ABS off a old side panel P1020953P1020954 Other side had cracks round the top and fairing hole, bit of a pain as i also wanted the inside to look good so spent loads of time getting that right as well.. P1020950 P1020949P1020951 Never looks pretty but the good thing with plastic welding is you can sand it right back knowing that its still solid, as long as you got good penetration ( ) just like any other type of welding And here it is, all sanded and filled ready for my mate to get some high build primer on it P1020956P1020955 The side panels and belly pan where fine so just a good DA sanding required So while i wait for them to get painted, the next job is taking the crank and barrels over to Grampian for fettling and crack on with the engine rebuild in the new year....
