...but enough about my personal problems... I recently sourced some "01" carbs for the lc which are currently getting refurbed. In the mean time i had another look at "00" carbs that are on the bike now.. I presumed these were the first generation carb as they didn't have any areldite over the jet hole.. Now i notice that they have the modified 3mm hole drilled into them but no areldite or brass ball..!!!! The bike has being running well bar the usual 5k rough spot that i thought was always there with the "00 " carb.. The bellmouth jet was blocked but have it clear now. So the question is, should i insert the brass balls now. ??

The original 4L0 00 carbs were supposed to be modified by Yamaha as below thread.. rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/45640/4l0-00-carb-mod-picsI never understood why they had to be araldyte sealed rather than with a new brass ball, other than maybe Yam wanted to be sure they were drawing external air into the air circuit and wanted it was sealed to the airbox side. My guess is that provided you have the air link to the outside world via the new 3mm hole, then if its sealed with a tight fitting ball or araldyte shouldn't matter. To be safe though I have only used the araldyte method so my comments and actions are misaligned lol. Good luck with it, Shaun

Just to be sure, you are talking about 4L0 00 carbs not 4L1 00?

Well Shaun it looks as if your hole is bigger than mine.. Mine is about 1.5 mm Confused.com

Can't imagine it makes a big difference as the hole at end of the air correction circuit is probably only 0.5mm, but it's not a big job to drill out your 1.5mm pilot to 3mm to match Yamaha recommendation. Just check that the hole you have is aligned with the air correction circuit first as its drilled at a jaunty angle!
As an aside, I ran a bike with 4L0 00 carbs with the Yam mod for a while and it ran well, but it was also jetted per the 4L0 00 modified guidelines. (160 mains, 25 pilots, 3rd notch, air screw 1 turn out, give or take). Not sure of the science behind it but San Yamaha knows better than me.

Is the 3mm modified hole meant to have a tiny brass ball in it.?

My bike came with modded 00 carbs and ran OK, I fitted 31k carbs jetted to suit (bigger pilots) and ran better, now have Taiwanese copy PWK carbs (oko) and runs real good

Geez ..just bin the Horrid things and buy a Fresh New set of Genuine Keihins and NEVER look back Yeah , i hear what your saying bare but to be honest i have a small sense of achievement after chasing down the problem and delighted with the results.. As for looking back , not much time now with the rate of knots the bike is going forward with..😜
